Why does my Macbook wristpad keep cracking?
My white Macbook keeps cracking on the edge of the wristpad. This is a common defect with the Macbooks, but on average the casing on either side of the trackpad keeps cracking every six months. Apple replaced the wristpad facia without any quibbles twice under gaurantee, and in addition replaced it once even after the gaurantee expired on the machine as the repair extended the warranty. A new crack has now appeared but I am out of time.
In my view Apple really should admit that this is a design flaw and should provide a replacement part that does not suffer from the same structural problems.
I am actually considering opening a small claims court case on the basis that the computer is not fit for its purpose. This consistent stream of problems comes on top of the batteries having to be replaced twice, the powerpack once - all admittedly without quibble from Apple during the first year.
The problem is fully documented on the Net but Apple never seem to openly acknowledge it.

How can I get Apple to mend the machine now I completely out of warranty time?

Inappropriate?I have the same situation, warranty expired, And is cracked again. I would love if they let me buy the warranty even though time passed, well is just lika a month ago. But this sucks. I paid 1500 for my macbook, any help?, Maybe Apple wants me to buy the new macbook, that enclosure seems uncrackable. For now im not closing my macbook till i find a solution....i Hope. Dez ur lucky 6 months, I fix it a month ago and cracked again......
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Check the paperwork from your last repair. Replacement parts typically carry their own warranty which can last past the Macbook's original warranty.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem but my warranty is still valid so I'm happy to hear it gets fixed under warranty. I heard people were denied by Apple even if they had warranty and this was due to their usage.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? My case just cracked (both sides w/in 1 week from each other) so I brought it into Apple. The warranty is well over but since the cracked case is a known issue, they seemed really cool about it and fixed it on the spot w/in an hour.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? You guys should be seeing a change in the way Apple responds to these complaints. Before Apple just denied the repair completely but just last week Apple told it's repair staff to repair these cracks, REGARDLESS of warranty status. Yay!

Inappropriate?Quick question - when you say that Apple repaired your MacBook wristpads, did they charge you for it? I have a MacBook that is is nearly 3 years old and the wristpad now has several cracks - I may sell it soon and would like or it to be in a better condition first.
And when you had it repaired, did you take it to a Genius Bar, and were you covered by AppleCare (I'm not)?
I’m unsure
