eee PC 901 Linux - Love it or hate it??
I love my eee PC 901, although this is my first Linux machine and I am just getting to grips with the potential limitations of Linux!! I am being deliberately controversial, but for a none techie I do struggle with the fact that it won't work with iTunes or 4OD or my Cannon IXUS camera, etc etc. All that said I still LOVE IT!

Inappropriate? There are some drawbacks with using Linux, but there is a large community of people who provide added support for the eeePC 901. A lot of problems I encountered were solved here http://wiki.eeeuser.com/ or on the eeeuser forums. That said, I think there is an advantage to knowing a little Linux before using one of these.
I’m enthused

Inappropriate?I HATED IT SO MUCH I PAID A RESTOCKING FEE JUST TO GET RID OF IT. I've used pcs since before many of today's college students were born, have oh about 5 laptops at the moment, and this machine was the worst I've ever worked with. Where do I start - how about the constant frustration of having a program open that I don't want, when I accidentally glide the cursor over its icon on the way to something else - which is nearly impossible not to do unless you pretend you're tracing a maze thru the icons. To add insult to injury, the unwanted program then opens S-L-O-W-L-Y, making me wait to be able to close it - sometimes this repeated 2 or 3 times with different programs before I coaxed the cursor over the one I actually wanted. Or how 'bout that I installed one new program, but when I discovered the memory was then COMPLETELY filled so I couldn't even save a tiny text file, I couldn't open file manager to get rid of the program nor did it appear anywhere under the Add/Remove Programs function. Never did get rid of it. And guess where a calendar was? Well, I'm not sure because I never got there, but after much guesswork I gave up looking for one (WHY wouldn't this basic function be intuitive?) and read the manual - ok, go to Work tab, then Accessories, then PIM - & I guess it's there. Only clicking on PIM did nothing but show me an hourglass... for about an hour. Repeated times. ARGHH! It never did open & why should I have to go through such hoops for what should be a first layer function anyway. And just TRY to get out of the endless loop that ensues when it tries to recover a document & you repeatedly say don't bother, but it doesn't seem to understand that. And it won't play mp4 video, only mp3. At this point, I was done. Finally - why on earth should I have to go to a user bulletin board to find out how to do basic things? The "help" function was useless, and the manual minimal & basic only. These things will sell like hotcakes and will evaporate from the market within a year. I'm just so grateful that I found all this out in time to get most of my $ back.
