bring back the old highlight!
The new highlight (in 1.1) is throwing me off.. I think its just too bold, and also highlights only the tweet. I like the the old highlight showed what tweet you were on, but didn't hamper the style of the tweet...
To me it seems like this kind of style is better used for "special" tweets (like tweets at me, direct messages, etc.)

Inappropriate?Yes, I have to admit the old highlight color was sufficiently noticeable without being distracting.
I’m sad
-
thats the word I was looking for, distracting. -
Inappropriate?Got to admit. As much as I love the new update, this is the one detail that seems "off" to me as well. Subtlety is better.
I’m only mildly bugged.
-
Inappropriate?Subtle is definitely better. It's also worth noting that, especially in a predominantly dark text on light background UI, having a selected tweet be light-on-dark is a little hard on the eyes.
The old highlighting method implemented with higher contrast would be worth trying. Best of both worlds!
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?I agree, I hope they bring back the old highlight mode. The new one is too in your face and at odds with the design of the rest of the app, which is rather subtle.
I’m Nostalgic

Inappropriate?Yes, please tone this down a bit Loren. :)

Inappropriate? The tweaks made to this in version 1.1.1 definitely help. This isn't just about what looks better though. It can be a technical issue regarding readability (through as this rebuttal notes, this isn't a black & white issue).
I think what makes this particular case a a bit jarring for me is that the dominant design of this app is dark text on a light background. To have a selected tweet be an inverse of this is visually startling. It's certainly effective in that it draws attention to the selection, but it really does make said tweet more difficult to read.
Again, the changes made in 1.1.1 help, but I think it's also missing the point.
I’m feeling technical.

Yeah, as cute as I initially found the new highlight style, it does hamper readibility. -
still a light on dark issue.. and hardly looks selected in my opinion. The tweet just looks colored. -
Yeah -- I can't correct the light on dark issue by editing PNGs. ;) I'm holding out for a better solution, but this at least reduces the obnoxious factor a bit. -
Inappropriate? This is how I prefer Tweetie to look. I made all the blue in the app match the bright blue of the menu bar icon. To me everything looks visually together now. I'm sure this won't be every one's preference, and majority certainly won't be satisfied until themes roll out. But I say that should be at the bottom of the list, no matter what, Tweetie is still beautiful as is. Getting every single feature from the iPhone version to the Mac version is much more important to me.
I’m perfectly fine after this tweak
-
Inappropriate?I may get used to it, but the problem I'm having with the new highlight style is that it make the selected Tweet appear *too* prominently -- it looks like it's a mention or DM as opposed to simply the selected tweet, and as a result is very visually distracting.
Although I don't mind the current light-blue style for mentions, I'd suggest that the style for mentions should be more emphasized than the style for the selected tweet. -
Inappropriate? As mentioned -- the bold blue color makes the tweet look "important" -- as if it's an @-reply or direct message. The old selection box was subtle but still made it pretty obvious that the tweet was selected.

Inappropriate?Loren is gathering ideas for how the selected state should look:

Do a twitter search for #tweetiemock, there are some good ideas out there.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? The best way to satisfy everyones needs is to simply provide an option to customize the colour in the preferences UI. Everyone has different tastes, let the end user decide what colour they want.

Inappropriate?Another vote for bringing a stronger highlight to the selected tweet. This change is one where aesthetic taste is trumping raw usability.
I find with the changes to the highlight I have to really work to see which tweet is selected. I was used to selecting a tweet to mark my place or my focus, and losing the highlight has diminished the usability of Tweetie for me more than I would have expected. Please bring back a stronger highlight color, or (and I loathe saying this) add a preference. If there's a terminal command I can execute to change back to the old way, I don't mind doing that either.
I’m unhighlighted

Inappropriate?Just installed 1.2.1, and was sad to see no noticeable change to this. If it did change, it's still too subtle.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? At least URL previewing is now fixed.
-
Inappropriate? The highlight for tweets is way too weak now, and seems to emphasize the user icon over the actual tweet. I'd personally like the option to go back to the strong blue highlight.
-
Inappropriate? There are some significant visual changes coming for the next release - I'm hoping this will hit the right balance (people *hated* the blue highlight).

Inappropriate?Well, some people hated the blue. And others couldn't work with the very light highlight, myself included. A balance would be good. Thanks for the update.
I’m looking forward to the update
-
Inappropriate?somewhere in between the blue and the first one is good
