Can't add second Twitter account in Tweetie for Mac
I'm having trouble signing into a second Twitter account with Tweetie for Mac. I signed into my main account on the form that popped up when I first launched the application, but when I try to add an account in preferences I'm told each time that it is unauthorised. I'm using exactly the same account name and password that I can use successfully on the Twitter web site (and with other apps).

We've noticed this occurs if you have used another (shall not be named) Twitter client on your Mac recently. Seems to put your account in a weird state. (Twitter knows about it and is looking into it this week).
Shutting down the other client(s) for a while before trying to log in to Tweetie seems to clear it up most of the time.
I’m confident that Twitter will figure out what's going on!

Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem. Have tried on two different machines using two different lines (not sure why I thought that would help...!). Can log in fine via the web to all 3 of the additional accounts I've tried to add.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Same here. Looks like that: http://skitch.com/admartinator/bckiu/...

Inappropriate?Had this problem and I thought it was related to the registration. Registered and it is now working.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem. However, even if I delete my main account and try to add one account then it fails. The difference between these two accounts are such that the account which fails is using a very strong password containing a combination of letters, numbers and special characters (ie. {[}]()*&^).
Not sure if the password has anything to do with it but nonetheless. -
Inappropriate?I don't think its a strong password problem as one of the accounts I'm trying is just letters and numbers.
Is running multiple accounts are limited to the paid version? Not a problem but would be nice to have this cleared up. Is that by design or a bug? -
Inappropriate?Took me a couple of tries to add a second account, but it worked in the end.
-
Inappropriate?I had this problem too. Try closing & reloading Tweetie for Mac. That solved it for me.

Inappropriate? Was able to add a second account by closing and restarting Tweetie. But I've tried this a few times and can't add a third account.
-
Inappropriate?Yes it worked for me in the end, however a restart didn't seem to solve it - I just waited 10 mins and tried again. Odd.

This did work for me. On restart, I was also asked whether I wanted automatic checks for an update, which I was not asked about the first time I opened it. -
Inappropriate?I've tried a few times over the last 10 minutes or so and I can't add the 2nd account. Restarting the app didn't help.
I’m disappointed

Nope. It's been hours since I last ran anything but Tweetie on my Mac and I still had the problem. Mr. Saxberg's suggestion to add @ in front of the name, then remove did the trick. -
Puts your account in a weird state? I haven't used Twitterrific on the second or third accounts I tried ... ever. TwitterFon on the iPhone, though. -
Inappropriate?Here's how to tweeck it:
Add an @ in front of the username and click Add Account. You get an error message. Remove the @ and click Add Account again.
That solved it for me on two macs.
I’m excited

Thx. Great Bugfix! -
Bingo!! Thank you so much. -
That fixed it for me - thanks. -
Worked for me. Thanks, that was driving me nuts! -
Thank you. This fixed the issue for me as well. -
It did not solve the problem for me....I tried it repeatedly. I am very frustrated. -
It works now. I shut down the "other" account, went back on line after a dinner break and entered both user names. Thanks !!! -
Yeah! This fixed it for me too. Thank you for sharing. -
Finally! Perfect fix for me. Thnx! -
I didn't believe that the @ character did anything, so I set the name to 'x' and tried to log in, got unauthorized, changed it back to the proper name, and it worked fine. So basically you could type 'x' in there, let it fail, and try again. It's not the @, it's that it's a different name. -
Worked for me. Thanks! -
Yey! It really is somehow weird 8) -
My hero! Thank you! -
totally worked for me! thanks! -
Inappropriate?Jacob's solution seems to be working for something like 95% of everyone I've talked to. I say what have you got to lose?
-
Inappropriate?Jacob's solution klnda of works for me. I can now add my second account but every so often I can't refresh or post and I get the same "could not authorize error" in the bottom right of the app.
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?Another way to fix it is to just change the capitalisation of the username.
eg:
From: CanberraWeather
To: canberraweather
Hope this helps :-)

I’m hoping this helps

My user names are all lowercase. But the @ solution worked. Craziest thing I have ever heard of. Thanks. -
The changing capitalization is actually a good one, I've had an issue on Twitter where I changed the username (caps change only, no other change), then tried to login with the pre-saved name (all lowercase) and it failed, but when I logged in with proper capitalization of USERNAME it worked. I reported it to msanford, who says I'm making stuff up because it shouldn't matter. -
Inappropriate?Just pressing the "add account" button instead of pressing return does the job for me. Sorry, if it's already mentiond above - was to lazy to read it all ;-)
-
+o -
Inappropriate? How candid of you, Paxton, to admit that you were "to [sic] lazy to read it all"!
If you had bothered to read the first line of the first item, you would have grasped that the problem has nothing to do with inserting an item into the accounts list:
"... trouble ***signing into**** a second Twitter account ..."
The problem starts when Tweetie tries to sign into a second account. Tweetie reports that authentication fails.
I’m irritated
-
Sorry, but pressing return instead of actually pressing the button with a mouse lead to exactly the same error message. First I thought I've entered a wrong pw but, just doing what I've wrote above solved the problem for me.
PS: And no, it was not the wrong pw I did copy and paste it out of 1PW and it worked on twitter.com. -
Inappropriate?Actually, I had to go back and change the capitalization. I couldn't even remember that I had any caps. Too picky.
But its working now. Unexpected behavior.
-
Inappropriate?I couldn't add a second account but fixed it when I changed my password. The first character of my password was a number, changing it to a letter seemed to have fixed it though i didn't try to replicate the problem other ways.
-
Inappropriate?Tried the #username and logging off for 6 hours solutions and while one worked for my second account, nothing worked for the third.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I cannot get a third account added. (Eventually a second worked, but I'm not sure how.) This problem is the only thing keeping me from purchasing this (otherwise excellent) software. I hope it can be fixed.
I’m frustrated
