Growl notification notifies of old tweets at startup
Pretty minor issue. When Tweetie starts up (or when Growl notification is first enabled), it sends Growl notifications for a bunch of past mentions and DMs, even though they were read long ago. Tweetie obviously keeps track of the "read" status of those tweets, since it shows the blue dot next to the tab when there are unread mentions/DMs. The Growl notification feature should use the same data to decide whether or not a notification needs to be sent.

wow. that's a little harsh. what apps have you programmed? -
This may just be the nature of Growl, and not a Tweetie issue. -
Inappropriate?it bothers me for a second then i realize i shouldn't be opening and closing Tweetie, so it bothers me like once or twice a week tops.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate?I shut my MacBook down every night, so it bothers me a little every morning.
It only seems to do it for secondary Twitter accounts though. (E.g. My main Twitter account is visible on screen, so the Growl notifications don't show for it, but they do for the ones that aren't currently selected.) That's what seems to be happening, anyway. -
I only have one Twitter account set up in Tweetie and experience this issue when starting Tweetie. -
Same here. It would be nice for this minor thing to be fixed, because each time I restart my Macbook, the 'xx new mentions' alert gets pushed to my phone via 'Prowl' too. -
Inappropriate?A fix for this would be great. I have Prowl set up and get a bunch of messages pushed to my iPhone whenever I restart Tweetie.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate? We're aware of the issue, but it's a complicated work around (there is no fix, growl isn't flexible enough) and some what less of a priority than other bugs.
I’m frustrated
The company says
this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate? What? How is it Growl's fault that Tweetie keeps sending the same, obsolete notifications every time it launches?
-
Inappropriate? So is it Growl resending an old notification that you didn't tell it to resend? If so, what can we do to get on Growl's case about it? O captain my captain
-
Inappropriate?"The company says this solves the problem"
How does a comment acknowledging the problem solve it?
I don't mean to be an ass, but I don't understand how this can possibly be Growl's fault. Tweetie must be sending it messages to be displayed, and it's displaying them. Tweetie knows what I've read, so it shouldn't send it to Growl.
I was looking for a decent twitter client and thought I'd check out the free version before paying to remove the ads. Glad I did, because I won't be paying for something full of bugs that the developers try to palm off on someone else.
I’m pissed off
-
Inappropriate?Looks like this bug is mistakenly marked as solved, but I am still experiencing this problem as well. I don't think it's technically accurate to say that Growl isn't flexible enough to fix this bug when none of the other Growl-compatible apps I use have never exhibited this issue.
Someone mentioned in another topic for the same issue that the app doesn't store any data when it is closed -- if that's the case, how is it keeping track of which accounts I've added and the preferences I've set? Additionally, how does it know that the @replies and DMs that I've read in prior sessions are not new and thus does not show the small blue badge for them, yet it still notifies Growl of them?
Guys, please update this topic as the problem is not solved.

Your accounts are in you settings, but we actually don't know whether or not you've read the DMs or @mentions.
We're redesigning a few things and hopefully this will clear up. But sadly GetSatisfaction doesn't exactly have the perfect verbiage in it's predetermined phrases to say exactly that. -
I am seeing the same behavior. I am considering "read" to mean no blue dot in the @ or DM tabs.
Doing a "Mark all as read" doesn't do anything in the @ replies tab. In the DM tab, I assume once I have looked at the DM it's considered read.
Maybe the confusion lies with how an @ reply or a DM is considered "read" by Tweetie is the misunderstanding here.
The other problem is that scrolling down all your @ replies ends up extending and loading older @ replies, so there is no way to just mark all that are currently visible as read.
I just did a test and manually highlighted @ replies to make sure they were "read", but after a relaunch they still showed up in the mass "old Growl alerts". -
Inappropriate?seems your customers are screaming for a fix. So how exactly do you set priorities? I can't stand developers that put new features above fixing existing features that don't work. Growl wouldn't even be necessary of there was a built in audible alert for new messages like every other twitter client out there.
I’m mad
-
I completely agree with you and I hope that Tweetie 2 will end this problem once and for all. The only question is how long do we need to wait for it? -
of course, we're going to have to pay for these fixes if Tweetie 2 is the "fix". I'm sorry your new car isn't working properly Mr. Smith, please buy this newer car it works the way your old one should have.
right? -
Inappropriate?Atebits has noted on the website that Tweetie 2 for Mac will be a free update for existing customers.
