Integration with Read It Later in addition to Instapaper.
In addition to Instapaper, it would be great to have a choice of another off-line viewer app. I vote for Read It Later.

Inappropriate? Why is Read It Later better? Does it have advantages over Instapaper? I ask because having too many options for the same thing seems unnecessarily fiddly.

I agree that too many options would be fiddly. Personally, I'd prefer to set my preferred bookmark service in the settings pane, outside Tweetie.
Today, I can only choose to use Instapaper or not. I'd much rather have the option of saving to Read it later, Delicious, Reddit, etc. In my case, the "context" menu for web pages in Tweetie would include Read it later. In your case, something else.
That way, everyone would have their way :-) -
movito, this is just the solution i was thinking about (at the preferences level)
for an idea about the UI with multiple Social Sharing options, see the share function of RIL. -
You should look at TwitterFon's integration of both Read It Later and Instapaper.
- On the share menu it has one button that says 'Read It Later'.
- When clicked for the first time it prompts you to enter your login for the service you want to use. (Read It Later has the added option of signing up for an account directly inside TwitterFon)
- After logging into one of the services, whenever you click the Read It Later button, it saves to your selected service.
Provides quick setup for multiple services w/o being fiddly. -
Thanks, Dan. I'll check out TwitterFon. -
Inappropriate?I just discovered Read It Later but haven't had time to compare to Instapaper, Curious what the OP says about the differences/benefits.
-
Inappropriate? Both iphone apps and firefox extension for Read It Later has a filter feature.
It also renders webpages offline better than instapaper.
Read It Later has a feature to share a page to "twitter, digg, delicious, email and facebook, friendfeed, google reader and more, within their iphone app.
I’m confident

Cool, will have to give it a deeper look. I only signed up and added the bookmarklets/got the iphone app. Sounds cool. -
Inappropriate?I agree with the above points. In addition to being a more robust app RIL is also a more reasonable price point for the pro version.
I’m excited for this!
-
Inappropriate?IdeaShower has also developed a Firefox extension which makes Read It Later even more handy and efficient.

Inappropriate?I've been using Read It later because of the Firefox extension for awhile. I just love how it has the readitlater icon right in the URL bar.
-
Inappropriate?I've used both, and Read It Later beats Instapaper hands down. An option for both would be wonderful.
-
Inappropriate?Having support for both would be super. Another point for Read It Later, according to their website they have over a million users, according to Instapaper's they have only 25% of that. So it seems more could take advantage of it.
I’m excited
-
Inappropriate?I agree... I would love to see Read it Later integration. Seems better than Instapaper and is less than 1/3 the price.
-
Inappropriate?i dont use read it later as i have found instapaper to be more straightforward and with a cleaner crisper interface. i do, however, appreciate that some other users may have alternate preferences so perhaps this can be a choice of services in the setup and i am not sure how hard it would be to include the support.

I tried RIL and prefer Instapaper, but I agree it sounds like there's enough RIL users to offer support for both if it's not a huge undertaking. -
I agree that the Instapaper UI is cleaner for reading, but I prefer RIL because of what you can do with the article after you finish. While Instapaper can 'mail to' and 'open in safari', the output of RIL is to all sorts of social sharing options. much better, IMO. -
update: i've started using readitlater in addition to instapaper. honestly these apps are cheaper than a starbucks latte (the new benchmark it seems for everything) and so i am happy to support independent innovative developers with what i can. i suggest others do the same when they can afford it especially after they've already paid for the iphone. in terms of looks i do hope RIL emulates Instapaper and i think a merged product could work nicely. instapaper i feel is more robust btw. -
Inappropriate? Both are good stand-alone apps. But, I like the google reader integration of the read-it-later app in both iphone and firefox.

Inappropriate?I also prefer Read it Later for the nice firefox integration. Since it is so much cheaper than Instapaper, I think they are cutting pretty significantly into Instapaper's market share. Read it Later 1.2 is awaiting approval and is supposed to greatly increase functionality. The developer has a note here on how developers can integrate it into other apps. I would love to see it in Tweetie. Twittleator already has added it...

im currently using both apps. lets see where the competition takes them. the killer feature for me is to be able take a PDF and parse it as text like what they both do with web pages right now. its much easier to read a PDF that way on the iphone than to have to pinch and zoom. -
Inappropriate?it this still being considered? i hope so. readitlater just released a new version, with updated api.
-
Inappropriate?Twitterfon now has the ability to save to Read It Later... Tweetie needs an update!
-
Inappropriate?I also would love Read It Later integration.
Please add this to Tweetie!
Pretty please.

Inappropriate?Still under heavy consideration :)
I’m happy about all the helpful dialogue in this thread.
-
Looking forward to it! -
Disappointed that after all of the comments in this thread it's still only being 'considered'. -
Dan,
I've moved beyond disappointment and have begun to encourage other developers (e.g. simplytweet) to integrate it.
Right now, I have a convoluted workaround (marking as favorite (star) in tweetie and then opening twitter on the web when in front of a computer and adding to readitlater) but for my needs and what I use twitter for (mostly communicating with industry leaders and sharing information/articles), I really need an app that supports an integrated workflow for marking links in tweets for later review. I wish InstaPaper were it, but its not, and I wish the tweetie dev team were more receptive to this idea for RIL, but for whatever reason (internal to their team) they don't seem to be the ones that will do it.
The irony is that readitlater integrates back to tweetie (for sharing articles once read) so it *could* be a match made in heaven. It's a shame, because tweetie is IMHO certainly the slickest UI out there, and yet this is a must have functionality for which i will bounce to the first app (other than twitterfon, too many things i don't like) that supports RIL integration.
So... who will it be: simplytweet or tweetie? (Based on the feedback from both, my money is on a switch... but i'd love to be wrong on this one.) -
Inappropriate?I'm also in favour of supporting Read It Later. The interface for reading and the synching across devices looks so much nicer than InstaPaper's.
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, "under heavy consideration" doesn't get me excited... especially when this idea was proposed 5 months ago.
-
Inappropriate?got a reply from simplytweet yesterday that (after recommending it to them last week) they will be submitting it in the next version and should see the update in 2 months. now that's an impressive response.
I’m bouncing.
-
We'd prefer to under promise than give exact dates for features. -
Inappropriate? This feature is in the upcoming Tweetie 2 for iPhone.
The company thinks
this is one of the best points
-
Inappropriate?I use paperspan , for its simplicity and ease, and for instant access to my links via its Google gadget.
Instapaper is quite okay, and din't tried readit later yet.
BUT, Why use many apps unnecessarily when your need is fulfilled?
I’m happy
