Keep getting a "null" error and Tweetie stops updating my timelines.
Then if I quit Tweetie and reload it, I get the same "null" error and my Twitter profiles (I have two set up) and timelines don't load at all. After a while, restarting Tweetie eventually works.
Is this an API overload problem? Or something else?

Inappropriate? This just happened to me as well.
I think it's the "you've reached the 100 api calls limit" message.
I’m confident
-
Yep, I think you're right. -
Inappropriate?I get the same thing but it doesn't stop it from updating. The same thing used to happen all the time with Twitteriffic also so it's likely not a Tweetie issue.
-
Inappropriate?Well, whatever the cause, it makes Tweetie unusable for me.
Actually, to be fair, this morning I tried again and found that, for a while, I could click on the error and make it go away, and Tweetie would keep working, but in fairly short order Tweetie stopped updating anymore.
I’m disappointed and placing my hope in further updates
-
Agreed. I actually can't tell that it has any affect on updating my timeline. To me it just looks like there always an error message at the bottom, but my timeline updates just fine. (Sometimes a little slow. Just had a tweet take 4 minutes to show up. Slower than with twhirl.) -
Not "earth" shattering, but it is Tweetie-shattering for me. It's like the app loses the internet connection and won't update my timelines or even show user profiles or anything, and it stays that way for quite a while (on the order of an hour or more). And yet my internet connection is still working. -
Inappropriate? So I've updated to 1.0.2, and I don't get the "null" error anymore. Now it just stops updating after a couple of minutes. It's been stuck for over an hour now. I'm leaving it open for a bit more to see if it gets unstuck on its own, but even if it does, Tweetie is totally unusable for me.
So can I get my money back? I bought this without even trying it out first 'cause of how much I like the iPhone app, but the Mac app so far is a huge disappointment.
Or is there something I can do to try and fix it? Do a reinstall or something?

I’m bummed
-
Well, it did eventually load some more stuff, but now it's almost half an hour behind again. So I'm assuming it's an API overload sort of thing, but why does it happen so quickly? Surely this doesn't happen so fast for everyone. And if it is an API overload problem, shouldn't there be a way to set how often Tweetie updates?
~G -
Not to mention the fact that searches still don't save when you switch back and forth between Twitter accounts.... (I know that's a separate issue, but it's another reason that Tweetie / Mac is unusable for me, and I was under the impression it was going to be fixed soon.) -
It sucks that it's happening to you, but I haven't seen anyone talking about it, so hopefully there's something that can be done to fix it. You might want to e-mail support@atebits.com as mentioned at the top of the page to get a faster response. -
Yeah, I'm gonna have to do that, I guess. I've tried deleting the app and its preferences and reinstalling directly from ver. 1.0.2, but it's still not working.
Actually, TweetDeck maxed out on API calls way too fast, too, so maybe there's something weird about my Twitter account or some other tools I'm using? I've been using PeopleBrowsr, but it's been shut down all night and so hasn't been using up my API quota at all in the last few hours. Maybe there's something else. -
I've tried to get the same error as you, by running tweetie on several machines and forcing updates, but I don't get the null error anymore, nor does it stop updating. Seems it's a really weird glitch on your end.
Tell us if you find out something new! -
Thanks. Yeah, it's weird. I might play around with TweetDeck a little bit, since it does something similar but gives better messages about it. I might also try Tweetie again after a reboot and with basically no other apps running to see if there's a conflict of some sort.
Then the only other thing I can think of is that there's some online service that's causing a problem somehow. Something else that accesses my Twitter feed, but that not many people are using yet. Maybe chi.mp? 'Cause if it was something common like Facebook, I'd think that a lot more people would be having a similar problem. -
OK, I just read this blog post - http://bit.ly/cbuF9 - over on the TweetDeck blog, which more or less confirms my suspicions about the web services and my blogs. Guess I'll have to rethink exactly how I get my tweets and other status updates into my various online presences. Strange I haven't heard more talk about this, though. I didn't think that the way I was connecting Twitter to stuff was all that unusual. -
Inappropriate?Actually though, now that I think about it, earlier today, Tweetie/Mac stayed stuck for over 3 hours. So while there may be an API overload issue, shouldn't it update every hour anyway?
I’m working on reducing API use
-
And also, why when Tweetie/Mac is stuck can I still use Tweetie/iPhone just fine. Shouldn't API overload apply to all my apps that try to access my account? -
Inappropriate?@simplygrey I have this problem too. T4M gives me (null) errors whereas T4iv2 works fine. T4iv1 worked fine as well. I don't think this is an API overload, unless mobile clients are exempted.
I’m frustrated
