I do icon design for a living.
At first, the Tweetie app icon surprised me -- it wasn't like the iPhone app icon at all, it didn't have any chat bubbles or blue birds...
But I've come to love it. It cleverly references the central elements of the Tweetie UI, it "reads" clearly at any size, and the purple helps it to stand out easily from the rest of my dock icons.
I wouldn't change it anytime soon.

Inappropriate?maybe one more similar to the iPhone one or at least one that gives you some idea of what the app does, currently it just looks like a thumbnail of leopard desktop.
-
Inappropriate?Agreed. The current icon doesn't relay any information on what the App actually does. The comic bubbles on the iPhone version are perfect. Also, for an app that looks so pretty, the menubar icon just doesn't match. It's basically just a black square that lights up when you get tweets.

Yeah, the menu bar icon could stand to be reworked a little. -

I love it as well :) hoping it stays around :) -
Inappropriate?I don't dislike the icon, but I'm not sure I get it. Is it supposed to be the tweet bubble from the app?
I'd love to hear the story behind the icon. Perhaps the developers could put it on their blog.
I wouldn't be opposed to an icon that matched the app's purpose a little better though (like the iPhone icon for Tweetie does).
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?I was also surprised about the icon when I first started the app. I like the iPhone icon.
Im used to Tweetie being Blue, not Purple.
And the black/blue icon in the title/menu bar just looks like a box. Not very sexy IMO. -
Inappropriate?I agree that the icons could use some work. The aesthetic is just off for me. My initial thought about the dock icon was, "What the heck is this boxy purple thing?" The menu bar icon is equally vague and calls too much attention to itself when lit up. Something more subtle (like Apple's Bluetooth icon) would be appreciated.
I'm not sure what exactly needs to change for the dock icon, but it doesn't feel very Mac-like to me. When I Cmd-Tab, I see a bunch of photorealistic icons... and then this purple gradient that feels too small or too disproportionate (the pointer arrow is rather large).
Anyway, don't want to beat a dead horse here, so keep up the good work and think about investing in a better set of icons in the vein of other great Mac apps (Cha-Ching, Transmit, AppShelf's new one, LittleSnapper, Postbox, Transmission, VirtualBox, Espresso, etc.). -
Inappropriate?I use the Tweetie Bubbles Icon from Jonas Rask:

Thanks for the link. Those icons are very nice. I'm now using the replacements in place of the default icon. Much better on the eyes. ;-) -
Inappropriate? There are a few things that bug me.
1. It looks odd.
2. There's no perspective—it looks strange next to the other icons.
3. I know it's meant to be a tweet bubble, but it could really be anything.
To me a good icon works both ways. When you use the app, the icon should seem appropriate. And when you see the icon, you should have at least some idea of what the app does.

That's pretty good! I think I'll stick with @spiralstairs' though. It's the perspective that bugs me.
