I use the bookmarklet to paste a URL into the New Tweet window, but then have to shorten the URL with another keyboard command. I don't know too many people who use Twitter that don't want to shorten the URL. If the bookmarklet automatically shortened the URL based on the user's stated preference (mine is tr.im), that would save a step and make Tweetie that much more likely to remain my Twitter app of choice.
