pressing enter should post a tweet, not create a new line.
I understand (and love) that pressing return creates a new line in a tweet instead of sending it, however, I don't believe that the enter key should have the same behavior. Enter should send the tweet.

Inappropriate?Agreed.

Loren wants me to 'MAKE SURE' that you all know that command return sends them. Even though you've already stated as much :) -
yep :) I'm talking about the 'enter' key over on the number pad :) -
Yeah the Command-Return is fine, but typically the Enter key is not used for a line break/return. I think we all just want a way to post with a single keystroke. I never use line breaks in Tweets anyways. -
Inappropriate? If you change this, make it as an option. I have an habit of sending tweets by mistakenly pressing return...

Agreed. Don't take away this functionality for all of us who like the ⌘-Return to send a tweet. -
Inappropriate?we're not talking about return, I think the return functionality should stay the same. I'm only worried about the enter key..

Inappropriate?IMHO do not change anything. You can press CMD+Enter to send the twitt and that's ok. Enter should begin a new line - that's it IMHO.
-
Inappropriate? Please keep the the Return and ⌘-Return functionality in place for those of us on MacBooks! It's very functional and easy to use.

Exactly! -
I agree! there is no enter key on a macbook anyways! -
Just wondering... How is there NO enter key on MacBooks? -
Inappropriate?NO! Please don't add this. Enter/return should insert a line-break/carriage return. cmd-return should post a tweet.

ENTER AND RETURN ARE DIFFERENT BUTTONS. return should insert a carriage *return* enter should *enter*/submit. -
They're not different buttons on MacBooks... -
they are on the same key, in the same way '2' and '@' are the same key. You need to press "shift" to get the key to use the 'enter' functionality. Thats why its raised and in smaller text. -
I use ⌘-return to get enter functionality... -
in tweetie, yes, because they have programmed it that way.. I'm just saying the way apple designed that key to work. -
"ENTER AND RETURN ARE DIFFERENT BUTTONS. return should insert a carriage *return* enter should *enter*/submit."
Yes, I know - see? I referred to them as different buttons. I am on a Macbook Pro, though, and hitting shift return is a pain. Cmd-Return is used in a few different apps and it works, so I see no reason to change that! George's solution below is great and serves both formats well. -
Inappropriate?Return: line break
Cmd-Return: Post
Enter: Post
Enter is not Return, Enter is Enter.

This is what we're going with. -
nice.. now I can stop watching this insane thread ;) -
Inappropriate?Given the kind of feedback you're getting, I think it's pretty obvious you should do it as a preference. I like the command+enter approach btw.
-
Inappropriate?Hello, I think we all want a keyboard combo to send a Tweet.
I like the way Apple Mail works. They keyboard combo to send an email message that you have written is "shift+command+D".
That is more of a standard key combo, but I don't know if everyone would liek this. I too dont like to click on the post button. -
cmd + return is an already existing shortcut -
Inappropriate? The button by the number pad should send the tweet, yep. The button to the right of the letters should insert a new line. And command + that button should send the tweet. Excellent :)
-
Inappropriate? When did multi-line tweets become all the rage? I agree a preference is probably the best solution. People seems to be quite split on this one.
-
Inappropriate?Several people say there's no enter key on MacBooks... I'd like to know: Really? Cos on mine there always was one. Is there some difference with international keyboards or something?
I’m very confused...
-
It's an international thing. I've got one from the UK and there's no enter key. Doesn't bother me much though. -
Inappropriate?when I did a search for this thread it says implemented.. but its not.. is that just another crazy getsatisfation bug?
-
yeah, it's 'planned' not 'implemented'.
