Thoughts after 1.1 update
After version 1.1 was published I got some ideas about the latest update. First of all it's a big step forward with very useful features. What is still no possible with Tweetie? Sound notifications, apple script extensions and number of unread tweets inside the badged dock icon. Mark all as read button is pretty useful, but the level of the dim color is still to high causing that read and unread tweets looks almost the same.

Inappropriate?Oh and still the UI is not Mac OSX native - no Dictionary and copy function integration in the timeline!
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Sound notifications are possible with 1.1, but it's a little bit tricky if you're not used to Growl. (Unless I'm doing it wrong... Corrections are welcome.)
First, in Tweetie's preferences, make sure your notification options are correct for each account. Enable Growl notification if you want sound for that type of message.
Then, go to System Preferences > Growl > Applications tab > select Tweetie and click Configure > Notifications tab. There you'll be able to select a type of message (Direct Message, Mentions, Timeline), and then a sound for that type of message.
Suggestion for atebits: You should probably make a tiny note below the lonely Notification Options button, such as "Sound notifications can be configured in the Growl preference pane." Even if people would still need to ask for help, at least they'd know the feature exists.

Confirmed. I have exactly that kind of setup and works fine. Enable GROWL and setup sound notifications based on your preferences (Direct, Mentions, Timeline). It took me some time to figure it out ;-)
