AT&T can not provide DSL service
Have been trying to get DSL service from AT&T for 3 months. I am always told that the service is available, but tech services has been here twice and they said it is not available each time. I was first told, after it was determined that I could not get DSL, that new connections would be available 5/31/2008. June 4, 2008 they acknowledged that I could not get service and there was no idea as to when it would be available.
It is now 7/22/2008 and no word as to when AT&T will be providing additional wire pairs for hookup. Apparently there is no plan to put fiber in my area, but you can get it 200 yds. from here. I am 19,000 feet from the hub, so copper has a problem delivering a connection.
Apparently I will have to abandon my landline and go to cable so that I can get highspeed internet.

Inappropriate?I have had this problem for 10 years with first Bellsouth and now AT&T. At least you may have the option of having cable for internet service. I work from home and cannot get either. AT&T (Bellsouth) has been telling me for the past 10 years that I may have access soon (say six months) (ha, their six months has turned into 10 years). Their excuse is that you must live within 1800 feet (line feet) from the CFO. I know people who live less than that and they cannot get DSL.
So if anyone from AT&T can give a reasonable time frame as to when DSL will ever be available I will be more than happy to listen but I am past frustrated!!!!

Inappropriate? My neighbor treid to get ATT to put in a line for his computer and they never did. I recently...for the past 6 months have been trying to get dsl in my home and they said they can not do it!! Are they kidding me? ATT...the company that has pretty much taken over the whole telecommunications of the world.... It must be a political / monopoly thing going on here. It just sounds fishy to me. Does anyone know anything about whas is going on with this issue? I live in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
I’m not a happy camper!

Same problem in Jensen Beach... surrounded by businesses and the treasure coast mall, but can't get DSL on my street! -
Inappropriate?I can't get AT&T to hook up my landline OR DSL service in our new home so I am going to call Comcast and Vonage first thing tomorrow morning. It's been 14-days that I've been waiting and due to a "backlog" they can't get any one out to fix our line. And when we were in our old home and had AT&T DSL, it often stopped working completely during peak times in the evening. I hate AT&T. And did you know that if you don't call to check in proactively every few months you could end up paying way more than you need to for your services? The customer service rep said you need to check in with them often to make sure you're getting good rates. What a scam.

Inappropriate?Even though Comcast or Roadrunner might not be much of an alternative in terms of reputable cable providers (especially when it comes to keeping appointments and installations), you will find that Cable Internet service is much better than DSL overall. Skip fighting with the DSL and go Cable. Once you can get the cable service into your home (which can sometimes be a chore, so be warned), you'll thank yourself. Compared to Cable, DSL seems like an old slow modem.

Inappropriate?Well, it's nice to find a place with others not happy about their situation. I can't get AT&T or Windstream DSL at our house. So I may have to go HughesNET or WildBlue. Has anyone else gone this route? I'm so sick of dial-up I can't do internet banking as it always times out before the pages can load. Our neighbor has had DSL for more than 2 years.

Inappropriate?I feel your pain...I live 1.5 miles from the major highway running from one end of Mississippi to the other. I have been here FIVE YEARS, and while the small city I live in has DSL,the fact that I am on the "other side of the highway" apparently is the reason I can't get DSL. I have called at least 100 times; each time, I am told "it is coming." I can't afford to switch everything, as I have a home business and thousands of people/websites have my ATT email addresses, phone numbers, etc.
It is extremely frustrating to feel like you are living in the Dark AGes! If anyone has any ideas on what to do to get ATT to do something, PLEASE let me know! -
Inappropriate?AT & T has been promising me that I would have DSL soon, what ever that means. I spoke with a representative on Monday and was informed I would recieve a call back within 48 hours. Today is Saturday that would make it 5 days. I am afraid I will have to change my carrier all together. The service after 30 plus years has only gotten worse.

Inappropriate?AT&T is also unable to provide fast access dsl to my home BUT I can have their dial up, no thanks.
I have comcast internet service and the service is terrible, speeds are extremly slow and everytime they decide that I have not had enough problems with my service they disconnect me under a "guard wall". Once they place you under the guard wall it takes approximately 45 minutes to get your service out from under it. I for one finally got fed up and reported them to the FCC.
It's time for comcast to stop the monopoly on so called high speed internet service! -
Inappropriate?I live in a moderately populated populated suburban area and have been waiting and calling AT & T for years about this. A new cell phone tower is being built nearby. AT & T watch out! As soon as it's finished I'm going completely wireless with T-Mobile (including internet access) and you'll lose $240 a month from me!
I’m very disgusted and frustrated

Inappropriate?Still waiting for AT&T to upgrade lines (HA). I work at home (telecommute to New York from Alabama daily via dial-up). don't have the option of using wildblue or other sat for telecommunication due to sensitivity of data being transmitted back and forth. AT&T was recently out to move a phone line for a business nearby so I caught the repairman and questioned them about the DSL availability and was told that it would not be available but that AT&T was working on the 3G network in Alabama; again this is not accceptable because it is also wireless. Are they kidding; I would spend more $$$ each month than I would be earning to use the3G network to transmit/receive data as I am on the internet anywhere from 14-16 hours daily working.
I’m extremely disappointed with AT&T

I'm in the same boat as you are only I have to drive to work until I can get some kind of ground cable or DSL due to data security. AT&T told me that they would have DSL available in my area in 2010 but then when I caught one of the workmen out in my area and asked him, he said not to hold my breath that they were probably telling me that to get me off of their back. UGH!
Upset in Missouri! -
Inappropriate? My subdivision(rural, 10 miles from nearest town) has the same problem. We feed on 10 miles of copper instead of from a neighboring road that has dsl and deadends 100 yards from ours.We are told it will be years before we get it while our neighbors enjoy DSL.My neice lives on that road and has high speed right now.We have 26 houses in here, and it makes no difference to AT&T because we are all constantly calling with no results at all except telling us it isn't available, something we already know.I am forced to use a satellite for internet for around 100.00 a month because there is no cable here either.I'm glad the president will soon force them to hook us all up nationwide, although I don't know how long Washington will take as they always argue about everything for a while first.

Inappropriate?well you guys are kinda lucky to not even be able to get it. I would say get whatever else you can and avoid AT&T.
I had it for 3 years where I live. Then I took a long vacation anfd my bill was past due. Service disconnected. I logged on to the site to pay the pil, paid for it and then was told there are no loops available. Same thing happened 4 years ago in another place i lived. What crap is that ? -
Inappropriate?lukily banks can stop payments :)))
i thikn i owe them like 400$ from the first time when i got it hooked up the second time in other place never even said i had a long due bill...
effing wierdos -
Inappropriate?Trust me, even when you have it, it's no great shakes. My AT&T DSL drops intermittently, dozens of times per day. It happened while I was writing this post.
AT&T is such a farce.
I’m commiserating

Inappropriate?Same thing where I live. 100 ft max from the highway and can't get DSL. I got the landline, and cellular, but no DSL. They told me it wasn't all bad though! I can still sign up for their wonderful dialup connection! I currently have Comcast, and am quite happy with the service. However, I am NOT happy that they decided to raise my TV and Internet bill by over $50. Ridiculous! I don't have any alternatives! There's always satellite as long as I don't mind the intermittent service and paying $100 a month for 128KB/s and about 5 Gigs of bandwidth...
And same as other people. I "will DEFINITELY" get DSL in my area within 3 months. They must be using the Mayan calender or something. It has already been over 6 years! I talked to a service technician that lives near me and he said that they don't plan on installing DSL here any time soon. He said that off the job of course.
I’m ABOUT TO HAVE AN ANGER-SEIZURE
