AT&T Rewards for Referral Program is a scam!
AT&T Rewards for Referral Program is a scam!
In March, 2008, I talked my father into going with AT&T as shown below in the chart below taken directly from my "Rewards" chart.

I called AT&T on the phone because I couldn't get anything to go through online. I told the customer service people I wanted to join the referral program and sign up my father....thinking what a great deal! I'll sign dad up and then take him out for dinner. HA! This was in March. AT&T said no problem. They would hook up Dads service and all I have to do is go online and sign up for the referral program. I did it the same day.
It is now June and my reward still has not been "confirmed." I know the bill has been paid every month! AT&T has their new account and their money! So I called again regarding my rewards. Now all of a sudden, some paperwork was filled out incorrectly and there will be no reward. I asked the operator if she could see the new account in place and she said she has no way of verifying any of the information. She can't confirm that my father is paying the bill or my information and since there was an error, there was nothing she could do.
My referral chart still says: Updating....

Talk about false advertising! It is such a scam I can't believe it! Don't fall for it! There are many other companies who are doing honest work out there that we should support!
If I don't see any action coming soon, I will be cancelling our phones, interenet and my fathers phone and internet. It's going to cost AT&T a lot more than the $25 gift card in the long run! Not very smart business!

Inappropriate?Tell all your friends!
-
Inappropriate? It's not a scam, it works. Just call At&t Customer Care, explain the situation, tell them you are cancelling because you did not get your $25 and they will take care of you.
I’m amused
-
A friend referred me to AT&T in July, 2008 he has not recieved any confirmation to his reward, 00DsGH.500555bBO:ref his # 540-761-5220
his Name Carl Chocklett. Email bchocklett@aol.com My # 540-354-1317
Email dottiemrtn@hotmail.com please confirm that action has been taken
to the matter. Thank you for your coperation. Dorothy Martin -
dottie what was the referral code carl gave you? -
Inappropriate?I filed my 2 rewards and they were received and processed by 1/5/08. I have called monthly and they kept saying next month. Our local TV station just did a story on the scam. I followed the suggestion and called the billing department instead of the reward center. Told them how long I had been waiting and about the news story I had seen which meant I wasn't the only one being scammed, misplaced, given the run around, etc. and the billing specialist (not even a supervisor) immediately credited my account for the whole rewards amount and then some for the inconvience. CALL THE BILLING DEPARTMENT not the reward center. 1-877-534-1038 My credit was over $200. The rewards people said it would be late August before I would see anything. Eight months no way!!!
I’m frustrated but now relieved!!
-
Inappropriate?ATT owes me $350. for referrals for the U-Verse since Dec. 2007.
I keep getting the runaround as to why I have not received anything.
So, I am probably going back to Comcast just for the principal of it. Am also going to talk my referrals into going back too. They are not going to be happy to know they won't be receiving money for family they referred. ATT is raking in the money for these people we referred, yet we get nothing.
I hate liars.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I used the 1-877-534-1038 number and got a guy in Florida who referred me to a number for Michigan where the lady referred me back to the referral reward department. I told her I do not want to talk to them again.
They are the ones giving me the runaround. I think I might call our local newspaper and write a Detroit station to see if they are interested. -
just remeber florida just joined the referral program was not offered before depends when you was joined and remember did you enter the uverse acct number before the service turn on . If you made a error enter phone # correctly they will work with you to get the money but it does take longer. Also remember att don't have to offer money for referring people they can cancel the program .i don't see alot of other companies offer this rewards but as always i assume their terms and conditions to be followed -
Inappropriate?I called the billing department who told me they would transfer me to the rewards center. When I said NO they said they couldn't help me. I told them to transfer me to their supervisor and they actually started into their sales pitch!!! Trying to get me to sign up for more AT&T crap! You've got to be kidding me! I was really angry and told them to transfer me to the person who can cancel all my services with AT&T. I told the person I was cancelling because of the scam they are running with their rewards center and she agreed to give me the $25 credit, plus $5 credit a month for the next year.
I'm not thrilled that AT&T is still running such a scam, but I feel like at least I got what they promised.
-
Inappropriate? After another call, I got my channels upgraded for 6 months. I don't even watch half of what I had before. I would rather have my money. They'd have to credit me $30.00 a month for a year, but didn't offer.
I’m still not happy.
-
Inappropriate?I WAS SUCKED INTO ATT'S SO CALLED REWARD SCAM ALSO. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT ALSO FEEL THAT ATT HAS SCAMED THEM NOT ONLY WITH THE REWARDS BUT WITH THEIR BUNDLE SAVINGS WHICH DOESNT SAVE ME CRAP......I FEEL SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST THIS COMPANY ITS TRULEY BAD BUSINESS.
I’m FRUSTRATED
-
Inappropriate?I made a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission Friday. I was going to do the BBB, but they wanted information I didn't have, like corporate addresses and phone numbers. If I left them blank, it wouldn't submit.
I am going to keep calling the 877-288-7973 number for Michigan.
Haven't been able to call lately as my apartment has been being remodeled. Between the two of them, I have about had it..
I’m still not giving up
-
I convinced my Mom to sign up also, again we were each promised a $50.00 gift card as a thank you and a welcome. Well, thanks for the welcome AT&T but I'm not so sure I want to deal with a company that would pull this. It's obviously a scam otherwise there wouldn't be so many of us here. I'm sure it pays off for them because most people won't pursue it - But, I will! -
am telling you all it is a great program they are all so nice when i talk to them -
Inappropriate?I also went back to the AT&T landline phone on May 2. (That has nothing to do with my problems with the U-Verse Referral Rewards.).They said I was getting a "Welcome Back" package with a $50.00 gift card. Haven't seen one yet. So I called Friday and they said they sent a voucher I have to sign and return. Why??? What happened to the $50. gift card?
Anyhow, "seems" it was sent on Aug.1, but I did not recieve it, so they are sending another. I have never, in my life, see so much bull out of a company.
Today, a friend stopped by and told me my phone has been dead all day again. This happened 3 times before because they are too cheap to change a "board" in the phone room of our complex. I was told it was replaced and now I see it wasn't. I am too upset for words. Decent, that is......
Last time, it didn't get fixed for 3 days. I have a heart problem.
This isn't helping...
I am ready to disconnect anything and everything to do with AT&T.
I’m too upset for anymore words...
-
What rep's are you talking too., -
Inappropriate?I've personally never had a problem with the AT&T referrals program it is so easy, i can't believe you are having so many problems with it
-
I AGREE WITH YOU -
Inappropriate?I DONT KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT I LOVE THE REFERRAL PROGRAM FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS I MADE 599$ PER YEAR.. EVERY TIME I CALL THEY ARE SO NICE TO ME ONE OF THE BEST REP'S IS DIANE AND THE SUP JESSICA THEY REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU ARE TALKING TO THE WRONG REP'S AM TELLING IT REALLY IS A GREAT PROGRAM I LOVE THE REFERRAL PROGRAM IT HELP ME IN LOTS OF WAYS..
I’m J
-
i have have you talk to any body to set up the referral you really need to have the program explain to you and you get it.. -
Inappropriate? If you are talking to me....I previously worked in customer service for 15 years before retiring. I am not stupid...I followed all their rules and so did my referred people. .I registered way back in 2007 when I got my U-Verse. I have my refferal code...All the info was on the ATT website. It showed where my people had registered and been confirmed. I have a printed copy of the page..It became frozen in time. It has been "processing" since Feb. One agent admitted they had problems when transitioning..
Another agent said we would get paid, but not sure when. Another agent said ATT is behind. Another said I was more or less screwed.
Another agent said so sorry and gave me a free upgrade for 6 months on my TV. I am really not that much of a TV person. Would have rather had my $350 or credit my account so much each month. It is a shame because I do like the U-Verse TV and internet, but.........sometimes, it becomes a matter of principal..
...........................................................................................
I finally got my $50. voucher Saturday to receive a $50. ATT gift card for going back to a landline phone in May. But that is a seperate department than the U-Verse Referral Rewards..That is all so stupid. Why not just send the gift card?.
Evidently you do not live in Michigan.
I’m not giving up.
-
't have to live in michigan the referrals program isn't a scam. i understand ur frustration, but i have always gotten my rewards from att and have never had aproblem with there customer service. whenever im referring someone i always get all the information from my friends and register them myself that way i no it gets done right then i sit back and wait and the only time i have to call is to tell them they have done a great job -
Inappropriate?I made a post but had a problem with submitting. So if it shows up twice, Sorry..this is shorter...
Anyone who hasn't received their Refferal Rewards for the U-Verse TV/ Internet/ Phone Packages, please contact your state's Attorney General's office.
You can do it online or they have an 800 number for your state.
I don't know why I didn't think of that before the FTC complaint.
This is not about Rebates, just U-Verse Referral Rewards.
I installed in Dec. 2007.
I’m feeling better now.
-
Inappropriate? How about you follow the directions of the program and you won't have a problem!
I’m Sucessful
-
Inappropriate? How about you quit calling every day and quit harrassing them and they will have time to get the reward out.
I’m Sucessful
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all your sooooo helpful information, but I don't have to call them anymore. It is being "handled" all of a sudden. Hmmmmmm.
I’m happy now after contacting my attorney general
-
Inappropriate?AT&T sent me a letter with my referral number in it. It turns out it's the WRONG number! We emailed in a full two weeks before my sister was installed and they gave us a general phone number to call. After getting the complete run around, I finally got hold of the referral department, but because my sister was installed two days ago, my request was DENIED, and there's "NOTHING they can do about it." What a FREAKING scam. I used to think DISH was bad, but at least they honored their referrals and gave you credit on your bill. This AT&T screw over program is just that. Furthermore, the referral department would NOT give me the address of the customer complaint department! They told me I'd have to call customer service YET AGAIN to get that information.
I’m VERY FRUSTRATED
-
Inappropriate? My name is Cathy in Florida... I am afraid to do any referrals. I still havent been notified about the at&t rewards. Here is what happened to me.....Since the storms we havent had a landline nor did we have internet services. In Sept 08 We decided to get DSL so we called at&t. We oredered it on a thurs. (Day 1)We explained we only have laptops and need the wi-fi modem. We explained to them that a land line has to be connected and gave them specific instructions on were the old box is outside. The modem was ordered and will be shipped to us by tues. Okay Great.. We got excited. Phone company came out on Fri. (Day2)We came home and found we had no phone service. We call them and they assured us we had service and the modem was on the way. Well we thought maybe it was our phones so we went and bought new phones still no service. Sat. (Day3) Again We called At&t. Again they confirmed we had service. That afternoon it we relized that they hooked up the wrong box. They hooked the box at the home next door that is scheduled for demolishing as it was damaged from the storms. Sure enough, Phone service..((Day5)Modem is here "Yeah!! WRONG!!!!! wrong modem,,,Still no service at the right location. Again we call..We got the Im sorry here is what we will do we will over night express the right modem and ship the old on back..Okay. It took 2 days. (day 7) We call again about the service being at the wrong location.. "Not a problem we will send a service man out to fix the problem but they wont be there till monday (3 days later)... (Day 10) The service man came but it was a DSL service man not the phone service..He said he couldn't understand why that asked him to come out since we are computer geeks we had no need for the DSL guy. I called AT&t while he was here. He confirmed the hookup location was not right. They told him that it would be an extra charge of $130 from us for the revisit of the Phone company. I don't think at this point,we have to express our feelings. (Day 11) We were done, done, done.....Called to cancel... "Again we got the "we are so sorry routine. They in turn offered us a deal we couldn't refuse. We havent gotten our first bill yet so we are waiting to see what happens. We went to the store and bought a 200 ft line of cord and as of right now we have to disconnect the line to mow the yard. They said we have customer reward but we are to scared to look..So to refer my friends and family is not an option right now.........It took 11 days to get service.........
I’m frustrated
-
Ridiculous. i don't know what has happened to ATT. They didn't used to be like this. Altho, most TV commercials are saying they always were. I guess I lucked out for a few years until this Referral Reward mess.
I would make a complaint to the Attorney Generals office like I did. Also the Federal Trade Commission and Better Business Bureau.. I guess they think they can treat people like this because nobody ever makes them accountable.
I am so sorry you had to go through all that especially with the storms.
Hope you get things settled to your satisfaction. -
Inappropriate?the referral program works just read the program if its a uverse you have to enter that number not a cell phone or home number everything has to be in before service active i did it right and i got my rewards you can't get after you hear from program shame on you . if the rest of us do it right and get why should you if you do it wrong just just you bully att by reporting them or say you will cancel service
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate? Here is an upadate: The bullying isnt coming from the customers... We got aour first bill.. Not only was our bill 3 times the amount we agreed upon from the offer they gave us but they double charged us for a "Service added" and charged us for a landline that we didnt order. The was suppose to be $22.95 total not $91.65. And here is the kicker.. They charged us from the day we ordered not the day we actually got the service... I decided to do some checking... There is an over 55 community in my area.. I walked to 4 different homes and do you know ATT did the same thing to them..If they can do this to people whom are on a fixed income they will do it to anyone. .It is ATT bullying and stealing from the people. I WILL NEVER REFER ATT >>>> We gave them a chance, but NOW WE ARE PISSED... Attorney Generals office here we come....
I’m livid
-
i'm sorry you bill was high but i would assume when installing service their a fee everyone has it sometimes its waved but i guess when you by a high package plan .And if services was charged incorrectly i'm sure they will work for you. -
Inappropriate?I totally agree. The same thing happened to me on 4 people i set up for moving over to att and because they didnt go in and report my reward code refferal ,,,,i did not get the reward. Yes , it is a scam. I have given them alot of business and even helped my family and friends understand the new service and i get burned. I right there with you on this.
I’m sick of scams
-
Inappropriate?I was told that when I changed my phone service, that I would get up to a $100.00 in rewards, and then they told me if I changed my internet service from cable to 'DSL I would be eligible for another $125.00 dollars for a total of $225.00. I received a $50.00 visa card and that is all. This has been going on since July 2008. Everytime I have called they have told me that the check has been cut and waiting for approval to be mailed. I mailed in my coupon and everything showing I had switched and they verified that they had gotten the info. Today I am told that i'm not eligible for the $125.00 reward because I had received the $50./00 visa card, so all I got was $50.00 of the $225.00 I was promised for switching services. This is really a scam. I don't like being lied to or mislead, which it ended up both, lied to and mislead. I am very p-----!!!
I’m p-----off big time
-
Inappropriate?Does anyone have the CORRECT phone number? i keep getting the run around. I need the REFERRAL TELEPHONE NUMBER CUSTOMER SERVICE.
-
The rewwards referral number is 1-877-288-7973.
Good Luck! -
Inappropriate?I did get my sign up $100 bonus but now I need $100 for signing up my inlaws. I used the PRE-PRINTED postcards AT&T Uverse sent me with a prepreinted refferal code and our name on it. "just give it to your neighbors" is all you were told to do. Anyway I spoke to Lance tonight at 877-288-7973 who could only give me this information The mailing address, no emails no fax, no last names, and no supervisiors available. So I'm mailing my complaint to PO Box 1250 Milan, Ill 61264
I’m pissed
-
Inappropriate?the same thing happen to me but in a diffrent situation i got service sept 16,2008 and i signed up for the rewards program on sept 21, i referred my aunt and my mother bothe new customers, so i was supposed to get a reward for it, it didnt show up in the middle of oct so i called and they said it took up to 6 weeks after six week if it still didnt show up to call back, so i called bacj after the 6 weeks and they told me i was rejected from the program they have no specific reason why is that i cant get the rewards that i referred people for. it all scams, they use people to get people to get there services and lead them to think there goin to get referral money for it and then they tell them they cant get it. i am goin g to report them
-
Inappropriate?WOW THIS IS CRAZY I AM ON THE PHONE WITH THEM AS I TYPE AND I AM RECIEVING THE RUN AROUND IN REFERENCE TO THE REFFERRAL OF MY MOM !THEY SD IT WD TAKE 6 WKS THEN THEY SD 8WKS NOW THEY ARE SAYING SHE DOENT QUALIFY FOR THE SERVICES AND I AM IN NC,THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS ARE VERY SARCASTIC AND HAVE THE NERVE TO ARGUE WITH YOU ON THE PHONE ,THIS HAS REALLY STRESSED!IM CALLING THE NEWS STATION!WE HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE OCTOBER AND THEY DID THE SAME THING TO ME WJHEN I SIGNED UP BACK IN AUGUST ...THEY ARE RIPOFFS!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I am sorry to hear about all of your experiences. However, my experience with At&t has been quite the opposite. I was told that I would receive $150 cash back when I signed up for the Uverse cable and 2nd level internet. I must admit, when I received my 1st and 2nd month bills the price was $10 higher than I was originally told. I called customer service and told them and they were very helpful in correcting my bill on that very same call. In addition, I received a $10 monthly discount due to my inconvenience. I switched from Comcast Cable (the competitor) because I was paying $55 monthly for cable alone. Now with At&t, I pay less than $70 for cable and internet. By the way, I received $100 of the bonus in the form of a check, just 1 1/2 weeks after my 30 days of service. When I called about the remaining $50, I was initially told by a rep that they did not see the additional $50 being mailed. So they credited my account $50 instead. This was fine with me. Then, a week later, I received the $50 gift card anyway. So far I am happy that I switched, and happy with my products. So are the other 2 people that originally referred me. One of them received $250 cash back. I guess it's just time and chance. But I am pretty diligent. When I order anything I usually write down the date, time, name and ID# of person I spoke with, and what they told me I would get. So, if I have a problem in the future, I know who is accountable. And since I have worked in customer svc for many years, I know the 'game'. If you have documentation, you generally get what you was promised.
Peace and better experiences!
-
I'm glad you are satisfied with your services thus far. However, to clear things up--what you are referring to is the "rebate" as opposed to the "referrals program". I, too, received the rebates promised when signing up for AT&T's U-Verse services and am very happy to say that they are prompt in their fulfillment. However, the "referrals program" is altogether a different department and that is where the problems lies. They have been very fraudulent in their promises and as so many others have noted, I believe they are running a scam as well since I, too, have had the same run around and problems getting the rewards originally promised to me. In the end, they find a way to not give it to you at all although they have your referral as their new customer. It's wrong and it should be stopped.
Hope you continue to enjoy your services though. -
Inappropriate?I completely agree with you! The same thing happened to me twice! We registered online the same time my friend got her service which was June of 2008. I kept calling to find out how long it will take to get my referral reward they kept telling me they had to confirm her name (but they do see it) Called several times and they even told me I would be getting something soon. Well I just called today 2-4-2009 and guess what? I am not eligible to receive the reward because now they put a date on the system as her registering 9-26-08. They messed up the entire account and they are not very nice about it. I hung up on them and before I did I told them I was going to another company. This is a scam!!!!!!!!!! I lost two referrals. They claim its all computer based which is a bunch of CRAP! I told the rep she was full of it./////////////
I’m Frustrated with ATT!
-
Inappropriate?I feel your frustration as the same thing as happened to me repeatedly. I have referred several people to AT&T and each and every time they have come up with a reason not to pay me my reward after gaining a new customer based soley on my referral. I agree it is a scam and I have filed complaints with both the BBB and the Consumer Affairs commission. I think there needs to be a class action law suit filed against AT&T. They shouldn't be allowed to conduct business like this and continue to get away with it. In the meantime, I will never refer another soul to them. It's fraudulent business practice to say the least.
-
I AGREE !!!! Legal steps should be taken and everyone that has been victim to this scam should file to protect others from being taken advantage of. -
Inappropriate?same here.
They sent me a amazon gift card which would not work when I tried to redeem.
When I called customer support they said it was canceled by ATT!
I got an email for another referral I made but when I went to the attreferral website it dont show up.
Here is how the "referral" scam works according to me:
Once your referral actually confirms the service from att they send you an email on the sly..if you miss that email thats it you lose the referal fee.
If you do see the emai and redeem - they send you a gift card and then cancel it so you cant use it.
I am going to call them and ask for another card.
Anyone knows how to handle this legally. I would love to get some revenge.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I agree. I referred a family member and never received my credit, neither did they. I contacted AT&T and they gave me some run around. I just referred 2 more friends...let's see what happens. If it happens again, I will drop service and discourage any one considering AT&T service.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with ATT and the referral program. I referred two people in January of this year, they went on line and registered through the information I sent them via email and it is October 13, 2009 and still there is nothing. Each time I call there is a different problem...the customer used the wrong item they should have used their account number but we will take care of it. That was entered and nothing. Literally 9 months later and no one can give me a straight answer just that I am no longer eligible for the $325.00 that I am entitled to.
-
I will be moving to a senior community soon. They do not allow U-Verse to install there. I am glad...I was one of the first to get U-Verse in Dec. 2007 in Michigan and I still didn't get my $350. for referrals. I think I got a couple $25.00 gift cards for when the people I referred got long distance. I don't see why they are allowed to get away with this. We are making money for them. My referrrals are still customers. I gave it up because my health isn't the greatest and I don't need the hassle. I figure in the long run, somebody will get them good. -
Inappropriate?I cancelled with AT&T/Dish Network last year after 18 month contract was up, only to be charged $150 from AT&T for early termination. Called At&t to request end date of contract, was transferred to Dish Network customer service and given the 18month date. At&t claimed they were not affiliated with Dish Network and refused to waive the $150 (interesting since every category of the bill leads with At&t; At&t:Internet, At&t:Dish Network, At&t:Phone). Somewhere in the small print, At&t has 2yr contract. Went round and round, through every chain of command, dealing with extremely rude and downright nasty representives. I cancelled every service, even cell phone. Finally talked with very nice rep from Wisconsin. Signed on with U-Verse, received first month free, 250 rebate, and add't $100 and $50 rebates. Have been very satisfied. Referred neighbor and just received $175 in rewards with no problems. Good luck...but BEWARE!
I’m content at the moment.
-
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. At&t want you to make a referral but they don't want to hold up to their part of the deal. I've been waiting since July. All they could tell me is that a supervisor is looking into it. I think it is a scam. If you just sit back and don't say anything then they won't do anything. If you call about it they may do something but it takes a long long time. I think they are hoping that you just say forget it and leave it alone.
