Why won't AT&T fix my phone?

AT&T service is new to my area (previously, only Comcast was available). We decided to go with AT&T bundled services after being assured that there wouldn't be any difficulties despite the service just being introduced to the area. We got the Internet and Wireless set up on the same day and it took FIVE hours. There were problems with the lines and a repair tech had to be sent out in addition to the two guys already working on the installation. That was fine -- we even tipped the techs because we felt bad for them. The phone was supposed to be turned on the following day. We waited a few days and then called AT&T. They said the phone was on and it must be an internal problem. The cost: $71 to send somebody plus $100 per hour!!! Are you kidding me? I don't believe that we should absorb the cost seeing that on May 1st there was no internal problem -- we had a dial tone on our phones. There was no problem with the internal lines until we had AT&T services set up. The neighbors keep asking if it's worth it to make the transition and I'm ready to tell everybody NO WAY since AT&T won't set up the service that I'm soon to be billed for.
