AVG 8.0 installation complains about an ewido antispy software supposedly being installed.
When trying to install AVG 8.0 Free Edition I get an error saying that I should first uninstall an Anti-Spyware programm by ewido.
Ewido is a part of AVG now. see http://www.ewido.net/en/
So I uninstalled AVG Anti Spyware 7.5. Now I still got Spybot Search and Destroy and AVG Anti-Virus on my HDD and I can't install AVG 8.0. What am I supposed to do now?
One and a half month ago someone over here http://help.lockergnome.com/windows/E... had the same problem.
As my AVG 7.5 didn't update its signature today, I'm in need of a fast solution (for example switching to another virus scanner)

Inappropriate?This one
http://forums.techguy.org/malware-rem...
had the same problem on May 16th - no solution there.
These guys
http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showf...
had the same problem on May 4th - no solution there but trying to clean the registry from stray ewido entries. That didn't help. So their solution was to switch to another Anti-Virus software.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Turns out, contrary to the information I found in the link above:
searching the registry for all keys containing "ewido" got me to a key the uninstall process of AVG antispyware 7.5 forgot about. Deleting enabled enabled me to install AVG 8.
Why didn't the AVG installer take care of that?
I’m pleased there existed a solution

Inappropriate?I tried to get the folks at AVG to join us in this conversation, but they sent me an e-mail saying that they don't provide support for their free products. Then, they tried to sell me some of their other products and gave me a list of hyperlinks to go to and look at more of their products. Looks like their marketing folks had a big hand in crafting this e-mail language.
All of this is too bad, especially considering that this problem apparently is the result of their own product acquisition. They'd do good by fixing it.
It's a pretty long e-mail. Here it is:
