Allow greater flexibility when selecting many objects.
When selecting multiple objects, it would be nice to be able to de-select certain objects by holding shift and clicking the object in question.
To put it another way, if I drag the cursor to select objects a, b and c in an area, they should all be selected together. If I then hold shift down and click object b, then it should be de-selected and a and c remain selected.
This kind of thing would really help with editing complex mockups.
Apologies if this is duplicating an existing ticket, but I couldn't find anything that described this properly.

Inappropriate?Hello Sam, we do support SHIFT+click to add to the selection and CTRL+click to add and remove objects. Does that not work for you? Usually (in all graphic programs I know) shift is for adding and ctrl is for toggling.
-
Inappropriate?Hey Giacomo, thanks for responding.
I can only talk from my own experience, using those niche software products 'Fireworks' 'Illustrator' and 'Photoshop'. Sorry, unhelpful sarcasm there, but I couldn't help myself. It's Friday after all.
The feature also doesn't appear to be working for me either, now you mention it.
I’m glad you responded, wondering what you think about my opinion.

Hi Sam, I'll go back and take a look, those are exactly the products I modelled my selection interaction from. Let me see if the feature did indeed break and I'll get back to you. One minute. -
Thankyou :) -
Inappropriate?OK so it seems to work on the latest release: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...
holding SHIFT will let you add to the selection
holding CTRL will let you remove and re-add to the selection
I did find a little bug where while holding CTRL you have to move the mouse a little for it to change from - to + and vice-versa.
Do you not see the same? I can post a screencast if you don't believe me ;) -
I saw the change in the cursor, but it didn't let me deselect anything. -
Also, did you check the Adobe programs for how they implement this feature? -
Inappropriate?I had a quick look at my illustrator help manual - it says here:
To select a group of items that are next to each other, click one; then press the Shift key and click other items to include them in the selection.
To deselect one of the items, click it again while you continue to hold down the Shift key.
Also, this functionality is definitely not working in my copy of Balsamiq
I’m undecided

Oops, that's not good. What version are you using and on what OS? -
Inappropriate?CS4, on Mac OS X 10.5.7, imac.
I'm pretty sure it operated in the same way on previous versions too, but don't quote me on that.
Thanks for getting back to me btw - it must be difficult to cover all the feedback you get on here.
I’m glad you're listening

Hi Sam, I'll take another look. I didn't entirely follow one particular tool when implementing Mockups, so it might be that some conventions you're used to are a bit different in it. What matters to me is that users be able to add and remove elements to the selection somehow. I'll take another look to make sure it works as designed. -
Thankyou :) -
Inappropriate?I would really like the ability to drag to select multiple objects within an area as Sam mentioned in his initial post. The shift/ctrl click is working for me, but it is not at all efficient for complex mock-ups where you need to move lots of items to make room for something. Thanks!
I’m frustrated
-
Hi Cate, you can drag+select to select multiple controls today. If there's stuff behind the mouse when you start dragging, hold ALT to ignore it. Let me know if I'm missing something. -
Inappropriate?Ah! I didn't know about holding ALT to ignore the layers behind. That works perfectly. Thanks!
I’m happy
