BalsamiqMockups.cfg doesn't work. (xp)
I can't get BalsamiqMockups.cfg to work. The contents of my BalsamiqMockups.cfg is:
<config>
<fontface>Arial</fontface>
<rememberwindowsize>false</rememberwindowsize>
<usecookies>false</usecookies>
</config>
It's placed alongside BalsamiqMockups.log, MockupsCookies.db and MockupsOnAir.db.
The version reported by Help->About is:
Version: Next.28 - 03/13/2009 13:52 11:28 (Air)
Flash Player Version: WIN 10,0,22,87
Before trying the next version, I tried the current version. Didn't work there either.
Logging location + parsing errors if any to the log-file would be nice.

Inappropriate?Hello Svante, could you please email me your cfg file to peldi@balsamiq.com? How did you create it? Sometimes this happens if the file was created with Word or other software that adds extraneous characters to the cfg file.

Inappropriate?hi
i have exactly the same problem..
i'm on linux with Balsamiq Mockup 1.5.32
i created the BalsamiqMockups.cfg with kate from KDE4.2.
all settings in BalsamiqMockups.cfg will be ignored..

I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I have also upgraded to that version (1.5.32) and are still having the same problem.
I've also tried a little debugging, by monitoring all file system operations done by Balsamiq Mockups using a Sysinternals tool, and can confirm that the file is actually read by the program. -
Inappropriate?Hi there, we're looking into this bug right now, thanks for bringing it to our attention and for the details. Stay tuned!

Inappropriate?Hi all, good news for you! I fixed a little bug in the code, and also added support for lower-case tags (xml syntax is case-sensitive, then useCookies is not equal to usecookies - ouch!).
So, with this update everything should work without any change on your side.

Please let us know whether the fix is working properly, it will go live next week!
Ciao!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Strange, thought I copied the XML from the help page. Oh well, the next-version is working fine for me! Thanks.

Inappropriate?Are there instructions for using this cfg file?

Inappropriate?thanks for the reply. Is there a list of tags somewhere? I am trying to set the default font size to be 10 instead of 13. I have tried <size>10</size> and <fontsize>10</fontsize>.
-
Hi there. Right now the only 3 tags supported are fontFace, rememberWindowSize and useCookies. I like the idea of a default text size, I'll add it to the TODO list. Anything else? -
Inappropriate?These are a few the my co-worker and I came up with.
Font Size, image and icon size, button size, Data Grid colors, link color, default buttons for dialog frame, arrow color & opacitiy. -
I'd like default weight for a font, eg. bold or normal. Currently things seems to default to bold.
On another note; it's be nice if the bmml-files would include eg. color and opacity even if they're set to the default, to make searching and replacing easier, eg. possible without parsing the xml etc. -
Inappropriate?Other options:
Snap to Grid, grid size, grid color. -
Inappropriate?Hi,
I'm having the same issue as the OP in that the config file doesn't seem to be taking effect. However, I have not been able to resolve it.
Here's my config file contents:
<config>
<fontface>myriadpro</fontface>
</config>
The config file is in the right folder. I changed all the text to lowercase per the problem cited above. I also changed the filename to lowercase. I tried with and without the space between "myriad pro" as well as other, one-name fonts. I tried restarting the program. I did start it in notepad, but since it forced the file to have a txt ending, I then brought it into dreamweaver instead so I could keep the right file extension.
I am using Windows XP and have this version of Balsamiq: 1.5.32 from 3/18/09.
I do see that the fonts change across my document when I go to View > Use system fonts. However, it's clearly changing it to Arial, and that worked before I even knew about the config file thing.
A related question: once I get the config file to work, will it be always defaulting to my chosen font all the time, OR, will I be able to toggle between comic sans and (if "use system fonts" is checked) my chosen font? The reason I ask is I have older mockups in Balsamiq that I wouldn't want to have to update/change once I get a new font installed, if I have to revisit those projects again.
thanks! BTW, I've only used the program for a couple big projects so far, but I generally love it. However, my new clients had a really strong negative reaction to Comic Sans today and I want to get this resolved ASAP (and Arial just doesn't look right at all w/the draft styling).

Hi t, could you please email me the cfg file? peldi@balsamiq.com - I'll be able to debug it that way. Once you choose a font, it will replace comic sans everywhere.
