Hi all, it appears that today's update to Adobe AIR (1.5.1) fixes the problem! Go get it at http://get.adobe.com/air - let me know how it goes!

Inappropriate?Hello Matthew, sorry you hit this problem. What version of Mockups are you using? Can you please upgrade to the latest version here http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... and see if you can still reproduce the issue? I have fixed a bug similar to this last week.
-
Inappropriate? One more thing: if the latest build doesn't fix the issue, could you please tell me what OS you are on and what steps I could take to reproduce the issue?
Lastly, I would be happy to refund your purchase to amend for the anger this has caused you. Please email me at peldi@balsamiq.com and I'll look up your order.

Inappropriate? The problem is intermittent. If I restart my system, it sometimes goes away. Once I figure out how to reproduce it reliably, I'll let you know.
I'm using ubuntu linux. Here's what I see when I run Balsamiq Mockups version:
15:11:34 GMT-0500 loadFileFromDisk:version
15:11:34 GMT-0500 loadDataIntoMemory:version
15:11:34 GMT-0500 ERROR: could not load:version
15:11:34 GMT-0500 setCurrentPath:?0
I believe I installed 17 or 18, because I installed whatever was on your site yesterday. -
Hi Matthew, can you please try this? Could you see if the bug only happens if you use the "open" feature before saving? In other words, does starting the app, creating a new file and saving it (without opening something first) always work? -
Inappropriate?Starting app, creating new file, then saving, works well.
The error file seems to happen when I clone an existing mockup and then save that, but it is intermittent.
Are there any log files that would be useful if I sent them? -
Inappropriate?Hi Matthew, yes the log files would really help: the file is ~/.appdata/BalsamiqMockupsForDesktop.#numbers#/Local Store/BalsamiqMockups.log - could you please email it to me at peldi@balsamiq.com?

Inappropriate? The problem still exists with air 1.5.1
Strange things happened with my mockups.
Deleted files came back again, and ready files were overwrited :(
I’m sad

Hi Boviz, this makes me sad as well. It means that the 1.5.1 version of Air doesn't fix the bug every time...see that "p_evt.target: ##" line? It means that AIR completely ignores the file name you typed in the save as dialog and returns an empty string to me. :( I'll report the bug to Adobe, we'll see what happens. -
Inappropriate?Hope you will get a quick response

Inappropriate?I am a new balsamiq user on linux (ubuntu intprepid). Just installed Air and balsamiq. I get the same error, usually when I do a "Save As" or clone the existing mockup and try to save the new file.

Inappropriate?Hi there, I just filed bug 2296892 with Adobe, as this is an AIR bug that only happens on linux. I'll keep you posted on what I they say.

Inappropriate?Hi
I am trying to reproduce this issue at my end, to see what the exact problem is, however I am unable to reproduce the issue locally (I have tried with Ubuntu 8.10 and OpenSuse10.3)
To be able to narrow down the issue, if those facing this problem can give me some hints as to how to reproduce this issue, I would be really grateful.
Also it would help if I get to know the answers to some questions:
1. Is this issue happening everytime?
2. The time when you see this issue, are other programs(like gedit) able to save files at the same location?
3. What is the locale of your system?
4. How did you invoke the application , double clicking on desktop icon or from command line ? Did you launch the app as a root user?
Thank you

Inappropriate?i have the latest version of adobe air and balsamiq 1.5.32. I am using ubuntu intrepid.
I cloned a mockup then attempted to save and received the error message.
Strangely I just restarted balsamiq, did it again and it worked.
-
Inappropriate?I am getting this too on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. If you need to save, as a workaround you can "Export Mockup" and then paste it in a text editor and save it from there.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Getting this error as well. Ubuntu Hardy; AIR and Mockups both downloaded and installed today. I was able to save two files without a problem; from then on I had to copy the existing files (using OS) and then modify those copied files as a workaround. This is obviously not OK.
I’m sad

Hi John, I totally agree that it's not OK and thank you for posting your details here. Hopefully Adobe will be able to fix this soon. -
Inappropriate?I am not able to reproduce the issue at my end, and whats amazing is that some people are getting this error regularly. Any help or access to the machine would help me nail the issue down. Are you using 64 bit machine?
-
Inappropriate?No, I'm using 32 bit machine. (Ubuntu 8.04 x86)
As I try to SaveAs any mockup the error occures -
Inappropriate?I get the same error
Ubuntu 9.04
Balsamiq Version: 1.6.10 - 05/06/2009 09:27 11:28 (Air)
Flash Player Version: LNX 10,0,22,87
I’m a litte frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I got bit by this bug as well.
To reproduce it:
1. open an existing mockup;
2. clone it;
3. save the cloned mockup ... either it spit 'error saving file' or simply does nothing.
Not sure if the above is the same cause for others' "error saving file" bug though.
What I do now to avoid the bug is save an existing mockup to a different file, and open it.
my platform:
balsamiq 1.6.10
ubuntu 8.0.4.2 (hardy)
adobe air 1.5.1.8210 -
Inappropriate?I just installed newest version of adobe air and mockups on my linux box and I have same problem. My temporary solution is to export mockup to clipboard and save it width text editor, then close mockups app and reopen file.
Is there samething I can do to help resolve this problem? -
Inappropriate? We're also experiencing this problem. Balsamiq was installed on colleagues computer 4 days ago. Specs:
Ubuntu 8.04.2
Adobe Air 1.5.1.8210
Balsamiq 1.6.17 -
Inappropriate?Hi all. I have not forgotten about this issue. A contact at Adobe has told me that this might have been fixed in a more recent version of the Air (1.5.2), which is scheduled to be released soon. I hope that's really the case, we'll definitely keep an eye out for it.

Inappropriate? After creating a new mockup and saving it I choose Save As. I get the expected Save as window and can choose a location and name. Hitting the OK button on the dialog closes the window but the new file isn't created and Balsamiq keeps the original file open.
Platform is Linux.
Expected Result: a new .bmml file would be created with contents duplicate of the original file
Actual Result: no file created

I’m mildly annoyed but will survive

Inappropriate?I confirm I'm encountering this problem also :(
It's on Fedora Linux, the version of Balsamiq and Adobe AIR is from yesterday (15.7.)
