Export *selected* to...
Would like "export selected to..." Mockup Menu options that allow me to export only a subset of widgets in the mockup to the clipboard, an image, etc. I find this useful when my mockup contains many screens or options and I'm interested in snapshotting just one phase of the flow into, say, an email.

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff, I'm already working on it, but the implementation will be different than the one of your mockup. I am planning on doing it the same way as the partial export to XML, i.e. if I notice you have some controls selected when you go to export, I'll ask you if you want to export only the selected or the whole mockup. Invisible! :)

Inappropriate?I was just going to post the same idea myself when I saw this.

Inappropriate?Yes, it would be extremely useful to have the selection available as an export, or if the copied content stored on the clipboard is converted when you leave the application, so you can paste as a PNG into other apps.
I’m excited

GREAT call! Added to my list. -
Thanks Peldi :) in fact the print dialog I have on XP when I print from Balsamiq has a 'selection' option in the 'Print range' field. I thought this would work, maybe you can hook up to this? -
Inappropriate?D'oh! Just posted http://getsatisfaction.com/balsamiq/t... before I found this. Should have searched first. :P
I’m feeling like a fool for not searching on the topic first.

Inappropriate? While using a single PNG image with image map capabilities in an HTML file is a pretty good method for moving Balsamq Mockups files into a more accesible dynamic format, I'd like the option of exporting just the controls I've selected to PNG. This is similar to behaviour available in both Visio and Illustrator. In Visio's case, when saving to a bitmapped format (JPG, GIF, PNG) it always exports just the selected objects, unless none are selected in which case it exports the current page. In Illustrator you are given a choice between exporting the entire image, with or without the Art Board boundary, or only selected objects.
An example of where I'd use this is functionality: I could create just one Mockups file with the base UI and any hover states, generate a PNG image with just the base UI selected and additional PNGs for each control representing a "hover" state and then, in conjunction with absolutely positioned div tags and jQuery, I would only need one HTML file to show all the relevant interaction.
With multiple Mockups files it could create an entire dynamic storyboard in a single HTML file.
I acknowledge that a full implementation of layers that can be shown or hidden before exporting to PNG would also solve this issue, but perhaps this would be easier to implement? This method would also mean that, except for the background UI, each individual image the HTML file points to would be quite small, thus reducing the load time for the page.
This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled
Export Selected Controls to PNG.
I’m interested in seeing what other people think of this idea.

Inappropriate?I could really use the export without sticky notes/markup feature.
I've just done a presentation to clients and the first thing they ask is can they get a copy, which I want to do, but all the mockups have sticky notes for our internal use.
Presentation mode is spot on for showing clients and so the export should follow that train of thought. I had to go through and remove all notes for 29 mockups which only took a few minutes, so its not critically urgent, but would save some time.
I’m hoping this can be added
