Free Standalone Mockup Player
I was demoing the work I've done with Balsamiq to my MD last week. He loved what he saw and wanted me to come up with some con's as well as pros of using Balsamiq and provide them as feed back to various people in our company and yourself.
I mentioned that in order to do a demo of a site to a client you would need to install a licensed copy of balsamiq, so that you don't get the 5 minute reminder all the time.
He asked, is there not a free player that you could use that doesn't include all the editor features?
It strikes me that given that the functionality already exists in the Flex app underlying Balsamiq, that this could potentially be a quick and nice feature that would make Balsamiq much more accessible and easier to demo mock-ups to clients without the need for a full version of Balsamiq.
Additionally, he mentioned "export to an exe for demoing". By this he means exporting a project to a wrapped up file that would contain the player and be run from a simple double click.

Inappropriate?Hi mr_nil, until recently there hasn't been a need for a player because you could just email each mockup to your client to view individually. Now that there's a way to link mockups together, we need to build a player (or more). Suggestions so far have been SWF, interactive PDF, interactive PPT, HTML...lots to do.
We are working on the Mockups web app which will allow you to simply invite your clients to the project, and they'll get a link where they'll be able to comment, view and edit each mockup, as well as navigate through them.
In other words, we're working on it! :)

Awesome! I'll be waiting for it. Export to HTML would be cool, especially if I could alter the HTML templates. e.g. to frame in my own bug tracking software, etc. -
Inappropriate?Excellent! That was in fact another question....
"Any plans for collaboration facilities?" ;)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Does the free version let you use presentation mode and load one mockup at a time with the links? That could solve this without the need for a standalone player application.
-
The demo version allows you to load as many mockups as you like. However you can't save any changes and there's a 5 minute "Thank you for trying...." message.
The message is the killer really, as you can't be having that coming up all the time in a client meeting, nor will a client really want to download and install a demo of balsamiq. A free player would be ideal for both of these use cases. -
Inappropriate?I second (or third or fourth...) the request for a player. It would be great to email a standalone file to users to get feedback.

Inappropriate?I also support greatly that idea.
My personal experience is the following:
When I receive a request for proposal from a prospect, I need to make (1) a good estimation of the workload and (2) a detailed description of the scope.
I personally outsource the development of all my applications so, in order for my guys to make a good estimation, they need to know as precisely as possible what is the requested job.
Balsamiq Mockup is a fantastic tool for all of this!
It allows me to:
1. Think about the project and his scope
2. Come-up with a solution
3. Show it to my developers for them to make an estimation
4; Show it to my prospect to convince them to buy my services
The thing is that I need an easy way of showing my mockups (in fact linked mockups) to my devs, but more important, to my prospects.
The only way I found until now is to bring my own laptop (I use the desktop version) to my prospects but for my devs (there are in Asia and I'm in Europe), it's a little bit harder.
It would really be incredible if I could simply go to my prospect with a little USB stick and a SWF file (on any other format) on it to show them my proposal.
That would really change the way I work.
I’m excited
