How can I add new UI controls, of my own design ?
I need to add a few items to the UI library of my my own design. We do a lot of sketches for webshops within a specific business, and we need icons to represent the widgets and gadgets they sell.
How do I do that ?

Hi all, please see the two videos here: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock... for tips on how to add custom controls and reuse common elements across mockups.

Inappropriate?Hi Simon, right now what you ask for is not possible. It's definitely on the roadmap though, as part of the "image upload" feature.
-
Inappropriate?Very good ! How far away is that ?
-
Inappropriate? Not sure yet, here's a rough timeline for my next few months: http://www.balsamiq.com/blog/?p=116 (scroll almost to the bottom of the post)

Inappropriate?A little update: I have started designing the Image Upload feature. I'd love your input: http://getsatisfaction.com/balsamiq/t...

Inappropriate?Lovely, but first I am going with my soon-to-be wife and kid, to celebrate our one-year anniversary...

Inappropriate?Peldi- Just ran across your tool and already love it. I'm eager to buy the desktop version, but I'd like to know if there is (or will be) any extensibility model for Mockups? My company creates .NET UI components, and I'd love to be able to build "mockup versions" of our UI components so we can help customers prototype their UIs with "concepts" of our tools.
And I'm not sure the Image Upload feature covers this. We'd like to be able to extend your library of built-in UI components with our own. Is that feasible?
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Hi Todd, thanks for your interest in Mockups and for the kind words. An extensibility model is not currently in the plans, but I'd love to investigate the topic a bit more.
Robert Moyers, in the "image upload" thread, points out that I would have to give you a way to "bring your own property inspector" as well, which complicates things some.
That said, I've done a fair bit of "extensibility layer work" in the past, and always enjoyed it.
For now, if there's something missing, it's really simple for my wife and I to add it (she draws it, I make it work) - just let me know.

Inappropriate?I'm in favor of being able to add your own controls and libraries. you should be also be able to pack them, upload in a forum or social page (like the facebook group) to share what your created.
Or even sell a library pack to extend balsamiq mockups... that should be very useful
I’m excited

Inappropriate?StR,
Have you seen this post...
http://getsatisfaction.com/balsamiq/t...
Please let me know your thoughts. -
Inappropriate?No... something like this: you can create your own components (like a rich text editor) and zip a bunch of them (or a single one if you like) and go yo a website and show them all what you created, the public will be able to download your custom component an reuse it, or if the artist charges for it, you will be able to pay for the library.
There could be a library for UML, for DojoWidgets, for window forms.. I don't know..
Look at kde-look.org, maybe that's a good example. -
Inappropriate? But that IS what I was suggesting. How is it any different?
-
Inappropriate? It would be *very* awesome to be able to save any group created on the canvas !
I spend so much time duplicating, groups... It would be very usefull to have something like a "widget library" ! -
Hi Benoit, you could save each group in its own file (maybe in a "widgets" folder?), then import it when you need it. Importing doesn't clear the mockup, it just adds to it. -
Inappropriate?It's a first step forward,
but not nearly as cool as something that could be dragged & dropped...
In any cases : Wow, thanks for the fast reply ! :-)
