Inappropriate?Hi Stephen, you caught me "mid-release". The Image inspector is in the image component, and it's coming in 1.5, which is shipping very soon. For now, you can test it here: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...

Inappropriate?Great, thanks for the quick answer. In fact I already did like the tool so much, that I bought it on the spot.
After half an hour of usage, here are the most important improvements I can think of:
ctrl-enter in a multi-line text field should commit the edited text - that is a common idiom and would spare me a mouse click.
Also the green selection color is _much_ to intrusive - and our corporate design requires orange.
How about resizing elements with the keyboard (e.g. ctrl-shift-left/right to make it smaller/wider)?
The most irritating issue: Can I "lasso-select" a bunch of components that are currently visually contained (in front of) another element? How about shift-drag starting a drag instead of a move, even if it starts on an existing component?
Can I set properties using the keyboard, i.e. shift focus to the inspector and navigate its options?
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Stephen, thanks so much for the feedback!
1. CTRL+Enter to commit: great idea, how did I not think of that? I'll add it ASAP
2. Green selection color: sorry about that, but how important is it? Mockups is not supposed to be about colors, just structure! :)
3. Resizing with the keyboard: it's been asked before. Are CTRL+SHIFT+arrow keys standard keyboard shortcuts? I haven't used that before. What other software uses it?
4. I see your point, but will people know to shift+drag? How does other software like Illustrator deal with this? For now there's lock and in 1.5 you'll have paste-in-place as well, which is how I've usually worked around the problem.
5. Not right now, but that's another great idea. Might be tough to implement though, let me look.
I have added 1, 3 and 5 to my TODO list for now, thanks again!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?3. I am not aware of other products doing something similar, but if asked to resize something with the keyboard CTRL+SHIFT+ Up,Down,Left,Right is the first combination that comes in mind. One of CTRL or SHIFT plus an arrow key for moving, and the two for resizing.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?Ok, I just implemented both CTRL+Enter to commit text and you can now use CTRL+ALT+arrows to "nudge-resize", and CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+arrows to "power nudge resize"!
In 1.5: http://www.balsamiq.com/products/mock...

Inappropriate?Definitly looks nice and handy!
However, here's two things I noticed while using it: Ctrl+Alt + arrows does not work in my case. More than this, I think I have a setting that flips the screen when pressing Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down, something related to grahic board I guess.
Power nudge resize works fine but I was thinking: Which is the difference between Ctrl+Shift+Arrow and Shift+Arrow? Actually there's no difference, so why waste a keyboard combination? I'd use Ctrl+(Alt+)Shift+Arrow for resize with Alt for power mode, or, on the contrary, for normal mode, depending on which mode is more often used.
Another thing: There is not feedback for the current size of the thing. When resizing with the mouse you see the actual size. If you could put it in keyboard resize more it will rock!
Nice work! -
Hi Cristian, there's not much I can do about other software taking over keyboard controls. That's why I went with CTRL+ALT+arrow instead of just CTRL+arrows (in OSX, that makes you switch spaces).
SHIFT+arrow is "power-nudge" for moving, so I can't use that. I want to keep the SHIFT modifier as a "power toggle": if you press it, things will nudge 20 pixels, not 2.
Re: size feedback, good point. It's hard for me to show it on top of the control in the same way I do when you resize with the mouse, but in 1.5 you are be able to see the size in pixels in the property inspector anyways, so hopefully that should help.
thanks for trying it out! -
Inappropriate?I see your point with "Shift" for power toggle mode. Stick to it!
As for the resize feed back it may not be that bad because users will use the surrounding components as landmarks.
Working with your app has been always a real pleasure, so don't mention it! :-)
