Large mockup can't be exported as PNG
I know this came up before with iron_Lung, where the problem had to do with an earlier version of Mockup. But now I've created a large workflow diagram, using version 1.1.54 under Windows, and Mockups can't export the PNG. The screen does a sort of flicker, and then nothing at all happens ... no completion message, no error message, no nothing.
Tried resizing the Mockups window (but not the diagram itself, which needs room to sprawl) and it didn't help. Tried quitting Mockups and using the new command line export function, which resulted in a hung background Mockups process but still no PNG export. (Watched the drama unfold from the Windows Task Manager.)
Can't make the XML (sorry, BMML) publicly available, but I can e-mail a copy for forensic purposes.

Inappropriate?Yes, please email it to me, I'll keep it confidential. It's just this one mockup that doesn't work?
-
Just sent it via direct e-mail. Biggest mockup I've attempted, and first time I've seen this problem, which suggests a correlation. -
Inappropriate?Hi Michael, I was able to reproduce the problem, and look what I found in the Adobe AIR docs: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/A...
"The maximum width and maximum height of a BitmapData object is 2880 pixels."
:(
Your mockup is 1751 x 3829, so it's too tall.
Unfortunately I don't think there's a workaround I could exploit, so I see two things:
- prevent users from creating mockups that are bigger than 2880x2880.
- this is just a guess, but it seems that you got in this state because you have many mockup variations in the same file, to show relations between them perhaps? In this case, I have plans for a feature which will allow you to achieve that in multiple files.
Sorry I couldn't give you a better answer, I'll work on that 2880x2880 enforcing code tonight.
I’m sad I couldn't fix this one

Inappropriate?Bummer.
But as you noticed in that file, the length is mostly due to annotated variations of a couple basic screens. If you have something in the works that supports such scenarios, terrific.
Meanwhile, it's clear that a Mockups-enforced limit is required. Really is a shame, in that the expand-as-needed aspect of the workspace is a feature I'd come to love, since I didn't have to worry about repositioning earlier elements as I grew the design in any direction.
Anyway, thanks for solving the mystery. Will divvy-up the file.
I’m disappointed with Adobe.

I know, it is a bummer. That said, 2880x2880 should be plenty of space for a single screen...I will get work started on that "link mockups feature"...stay tuned for more. -
Inappropriate?Hey Michael, I added the 2880x2880 limit as part of this feature. See my two comments at the bottom there: http://getsatisfaction.com/balsamiq/t...

Inappropriate?OK, this is now live
