Mockups tab order...
How does Mockups determine tab order? I opened multiple files all at once and the tabs all seem in a random order. They don't seem to be in any order (alpha, date, size). Even if I open them in order (one at a time), they still wont stay in the right order.
I would really like the ability to reorder the tabs:
I often show mockups to demonstrate workflow by having each UI screen on its own mockup. But having the tabs in random order makes this painful. I wish they could be in order.

Inappropriate?Hi Michael, I agree, the tab bar needs a lot of improving, not only sorting, but being able to close tabs a-la Firefox and lots of other little things. I had started building it all up but never got it to a point that was satisfactory to me, so I punted it for a later release.
Now I'm thinking of doing this in two passes: I'll immediately add code to sort tabs alphabetically (should be easy) for 1.5, and bump up the priority of "reorder tabs" on my todo list.
I'll report back when phase 1 is live.
-
Inappropriate?Ok, NEXT.159 has the tab ordering...at least now you'll be able to sort your mockups by calling them 1_foo, 2_bar etc...I know, not the smoothest.
-
Inappropriate?Love the tab ordering! 160 works great on OSX and WIndows XP Pro (in Fusion) for me.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I think it's important to be able to reorder tabs by dragging. If I use the 01_foo, 02_bar etc naming convention and I have 20 or 30 steps, inserting something in the middle becomes cumbersome.
Also, the ability to right click and rename a tab (whilst renaming the underlying bmml file) would be helpful.
Keep up the great work!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? An easier way to add something in between is like... 08_foo, 08a_foo and 09_foo.
In theory you can also keep adding alternates like 09a1b_foo -
Inappropriate? One vote up for being able to drag tabs around in the UI. I like that they are alphabetically ordered already, but could use the drag ordering as well.
I’m unconcerned
-
Inappropriate?Me wants to drag tabs to change their order! Extra credit if you could rename the tabs and have all links that link to that page, change automatically.
I’m frustrated

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate? This may be getting into the realm of being to opaque to users, but here's a brain dropping on the subject:
What about a text file( "tab_order.txt"?--but how to internationalize?) in the folder that, if it exists, automatically rearranges the tabs to match the order in "tab_order.txt".
That would then require a method of updating the text file if the user has manually dragged them around, or added a new one.
Perhaps if a user has dragged tabs around, on closing the last tab to a folder, the user is presented with a list of all files in that folder, with the ability to drag the order around.
Sometimes I get the feeling that if there are too many special cases resulting from an idea, it's not such a good idea. But heck, it's just an idea, perhaps it will fertilize someone's thought process.. -
Inappropriate?Hi guys, an update on this old thread. We have started to work on it. The new tabs will shrink like in Chrome, have an (x) on hover like in Safari and have a "drop target" for drag-and-drop like in Firefox. The best of all worlds! ;)
Stay tuned for updates!
I’m happy

Will the positions persist somehow? Either in the Balsamiq local config (if there exists such a thing) or perhaps in the bmml? I am just thinking of the case where you open 10 mockups, re-arrange them how you like, come in the next day and open the same 10 mockups, will it remember the positions? -
it will remember the position across restarts, yes.
