Running Balsamiq in a College Environment, where you can't install any software on a PC
How can I use Balsamiq in a college environment where it's a nightmare to have software installed?
I'd like to get my software engineering class using Balsamiq to do mockups as part of a project. I saw that there is a requirement to have AIR installed on the computer. But it could take a long time for the college to do this. So what I'd like to know is it possible for students to install all that is needed on a USB key and be able to run it on a college machine which doesn't have any of the software installed
Thanks for any help.

Inappropriate?Hi Adrian, good question. Mockups is fairly portable (see this thread: http://getsatisfaction.com/balsamiq/t...), but AIR needs to be installed on the host machine, which doesn't solve your problem. I guess a workaround for now is to use the free web demo version here: http://www.balsamiq.com/demos/mockups... - it nags you every 5 minutes but you can import and export the XML...plus you can't beat the price! :)

Inappropriate? What is your school? I would talk to you professor/advisor. If it's a human factors/software design class, someone should really push to get it installed so you can learn how to paper prototype.

Inappropriate?Thanks for the feedback guys,
I'm the lecturer in the module and want to get the students doing graphical mockups as part of the their Software engineering projects that they need to do. The problem is that the college IT department need time and are not keen on installing additional applications onto the PC's there. I'll drop them a line and see, but I was hoping to just get the students to pop all they needed onto a USB drive so they could run the app from that way..
Thanks again...

Inappropriate?Following up to let you know that I got this sorted and now have the software installed on the machines. IT department were extremely helpful in getting in installed on the machines. Students got to grips with it really quickly and was great to see the progress being made.
Popped in a request to Balsamiq for a some keys to let get do their project work. So hopefully you'll be able to help me out.
Many Thanks,
Adrian.
I’m happy
