Inappropriate?The logic that is currently implemented for asset thumbnail generation is that the asset image is scaled to thumbnail size, then centered and cropped square so small long images don't look nice. I think the problem is scaling is currently allow to enlarge small images, giving the effect you show with small large images. I'll switch to not allowing image enlargement and we can see if that makes more sense.
