What will Senator Obama do to help businesses shoulder their health care costs?

Senator Obama understands the pressure that health care costs place on businesses. That is one of the main reasons why he believes government must step up to reduce the burden on employers and guarantee health insurance for all Americans.

As a start, he has introduced innovative legislation to address employee health care costs in the auto industry. This "Healthcare for Hybrids" legislation encourages automakers to make fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles by helping the companies shoulder the health care costs of their retirees. Domestic automakers would get health care assistance in exchange for their investing 50 percent of the savings into technology to produce more fuel-efficient vehicles.
