Inappropriate? The bug of white blank screen is coming out with the iphone 2.2 and we already fixed it in 0.9.6 of Discover which is already uploaded to app store and waiting for approval. You will have it in two or three days. Thanks for your support.
-
Hi Sniper, I noted that your comment was made 5 days ago, with the notation that we should see it in 2 or 3 days. I know you do not have any control over the Apple approval process, but was wondering if they had rejected it for any reason. I was also wondering if/when a paid ad-free version was going to be available soon.
Best regards, -
Inappropriate?Hey
I have this problem too, although mine often freezes, goes black and then returns to the home screen aswell. It's annoying because it does this 80% of the time im trying to boot it........any fix?
I’m MISSING MY FUNCTIONAL DISCOVER APP! :)
-
Inappropriate?I had same problem vith iPhone 3G (fw:2.2) and Discover V 1.0.4.
I like this application, but... -
Inappropriate? It started this evening for me! I am still on version 2.1 and still stuck with the White Blank screen with or without WiFi.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?same thing, my version says 1.04 but on the appstore it's 0.9.5, wonder why ???
using Ipod 2Generation with 2.2
I really miss this app, I use it all the time -
Inappropriate?any fix yet ? I have the same issue too ? Did they put an expiry on the free version ? I played with the iphone time and got nothing ...
-
Inappropriate?I'm an ipod touch 2g user who has been without a computer for a bit.
I've been using discover to put movies from the computers of others on my ipod and to watch them, but I currently cannot use discover at all as of today. So now my ipod has several gigabytes of files I can't remove. Nice. Thanks bbase.
I’m pissed.
-
Inappropriate?Few questions:
- Removing Discover will remove updloaded files or not ?
- If not, re-installing Discover will give accessibility to the files or not ?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?same as all the above...
blank screen on startup and that's it, not being "discovered" by the windows client either. and funny fact, YOU CAN download 0.9.6 from the appstore now! but when i go there & check, it's still the 0.9.5...
I've installed this at least 5 times, fiddled around with the wifi settings and whatnot, but alas, this app (which to me would be really convenient) simply does not work...
not on a iPod Touch 2G with either 2.1.1 FW or 2.2 FW... it just will not work...
i'd seriously concider paying for this app, if it worked...
and for the past month, i haven't gotten it to do just that... work...
hope you come up with a fix soon, or at least a decent explanation as to why the 0.9.6 is not available in the appstore...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Having got the blank white screen I deleted Discover and reloaded from app store to my iphone 3G. Still had white screen, then I went into my wi fi settings switching it off and then back on and Discover came back to life.
The application seems to either freeze or lose the wi fi connection.

tried it at least a dozen of times...
it just wont work
i tried rebooting, tried starting without wifi on, tried starting with wifi on, tried this & that and still it doesn't do squat for me...
just a white screen and that's it, and i haven't gotten any further than that...
ever since i first downloaded the app... which was about 2 months ago now -
This solved my problem! Thanks. -
Inappropriate?hi i have 3g iphone with the last firm, and Discover don't works, watagel?
Any solutions?
thanks! -
Inappropriate?Dear All,
We are sorry that the blank screen problem bothered some of you quite a while. It is a small bug caused by the new ADs provider Purpletalk and was fixed two weeks ago in the new version 0.9.6. But Apple rejected the new version 0.9.6 twice because of the photo functions we have. That's why the updated version is not coming out until today. We are really sorry to see many customers suffered due to it and hopefully Apple will approve our third submission of 0.9.6 soon.
Though we are a little frustrated for the low rating of Discover at app store, please believe in us that we are continued to develop more innovative features for Discover. In version 1.0 which will come out around Christmas, we will support file transferring on Internet instead of Wi-Fi networks only. More interesting features are also coming soon.
We are sorry again for the problems and bugs that we have in the Beta stage of Discover and hope everyone will continue support us in the coming versions of Discover.
Thanks for your support!
Best,
B-Base Team
I’m confident
-
*I* gave it 5 stars. Can't wait for the update, though! -
I still cant see the app in appstore for update... How long its gonna take? -
Inappropriate?i used it last night and it was perfectly fine, but today its white and it just makes me want to go grrrrr. I really love and need this app badly!
-
Inappropriate?@Sniper I don’t think the low rating is a reflection of users’ experience overall – I suspect many users have been rating you with one star after downloading and not getting it to work. In the days before Apple introduced the option to rate an app as you deleted it, your rating would have suffered a lot less (IMHO).
I believe the download of this app should have been suspended whilst awaiting Apples approval of the fix. I don’t know if this is possible but if not then Apple should introduce it. Here’s an extract of the review I just submitted on iTunes:
...Here’s the but... unfortunately this app has not worked for a couple of weeks. I checked on their help forum and it turned out they had an update awaiting approval, which would fix the bug. Two weeks later, still no update. I checked again and it seems their update was rejected twice and they are now on their third attempt.
This app has pointed out a flaw in Apples new feature of being able to rate an app on deletion. The written reviews of the app are on the whole positive, but judging by the average rating it looks like many people have been trying it and getting the white screen, deleting it straight away and rating it 1 star (understandably) . Surely there should be a way for app downloads to be frozen while a major bug fix is in the pipeline. If I sold toy cars and it turned out the wheels kept falling off, I wouldn’t continue selling the broken ones until the new batch arrived!
Of the people who’ve actually written a review so far (26), the average star rating is 4 (there is a mix of good and bad, but mainly people seem to like it). At the time of writing the average rating is 2.5. That means that roughly speaking another 24 people rated it a 1. I’m sure a few of these would be people who didn’t like it but I’m also sure the bulk of this is people downloading an app that doesn’t work. It would take another 40 people rating this a 5 star to get the average back up to 4 (roughly) so the people at Discover have a lot of work to do in order to restore their previous rating.
Why does this matter? Ratings are supposed to be a guide as to how good or bad the previous user experience has been, but now that Apple have made it easier for the user to mark down an app without any real thought, the ratings will become increasingly pointless (the people who keep the app aren’t getting messages popping up on their iPhone asking them how brilliant they think it is.)
So – 1 star to Apple for adding yet another pointless function without thinking it through, and I’ll deduct a star from Discover as I think they should have been a bit more visible on the help forum to keep people informed – I was beginning to think the plug had been pulled on this app. I’ll give them the star back if the fix ever sees the light of day.
Anyway, great application and I’m sure when people actually try the app out and see it for all the uses that it has, the ratings will come back up to a deserved level. I’m hoping that at some point today I may see Discover pop up in my updates window and I can start using it again! -
Hi, many thanks for you kind support! -
Also, the recent "WiFinder" app is getting low ratings because people just go "lol, just use Settings and get your wi-fi connection u nubs." In reality, the app is great and finds hidden networks, etc. that Settings doesn't. People also rated it 1 for "terrible range" ...it uses the maximum range that an iPhone/iPod touch can use!
I wish review moderation actually moderated the reviews for stupidity, because, in the case of both WiFinder and your excellent app, the low reviews are mostly uncalled for.
On a side note, the best review ever written was for the WiFinder. "WiFinder? I 'ardly knew 'er!" :D -
Inappropriate?Sniper,
I hope Apple haven't asked you to remove write access to the photos folders (under DCIM) because for me that is what makes Discover better than the other file storage apps. It means I can drop large files onto the iPhone via USB cable (using iPhoneBrowser or DiskAid) and see them via Discover. Please don't remove access to those folders!
Thanks. -
Exactly what i am using this app for and miss this functionality badly. -
We didn't remove it but kind of revising it a little bit. That's why we got rejected again. -
Inappropriate?Just a correction to my last post, I realised after posting that in certain views in itunes you can actually see the total number of ratings received, including the ones with no review. Discover has 339 ratings, which I THINK (I'm no mathematician) means that the next 400 people to review would need to give it 5 stars to get it to around 3.8 average! That's a lot of clawing back to do. Seems rather unfair to me given that in all probability most people tried to get it to work for 5 minutes then binned it. At least when people have to write something, you can usually tell if they are just idiots and disregard their review, I see no advantage in making it easy give an app a poor rating without having to explain your reasons.
-
Inappropriate?fix the problem and forget your new functionality - you have a ton of disappointed, loyal customers who simply CANNOT use your product. Nobody cares right now what you're adding, because it doesn't work at all.
completely drop the new functionality and fix the old version - delay your new version release and suck it up. I'd pay for this, working and just like it was before - but the longer I have to wait for new functionality to get approved, the less willing to pay I become.
I’m still pissed.
-
Inappropriate? The App store still shows version 0.9.5 The new one 0.9.6 hasnt made it till now. Really a pity that such an great app would have this fate for an advertising api. Hope that this issue is resolved soon and look forward to the Christmas release.
I’m speechless
-
Inappropriate?Guys, please do your customers a favor by droping feature additiona d just making a bug fix release. No we dont need 0.96 we will be happy with 0.95.1 which let us use the app. Please do this before steam runs out and you loose tons of customers. We understand that you are disappointed with app store rating but look from customer point of view, we are more disappointed then you are.
regards
Vivek

-
Inappropriate? Thanks for all of your reply. It's a little pity that apple rejected us because of the old function of photos instead of new features.... Apple didn't reject us in the beginning but in an important bug fixing version. It's a little funny...We wont remove all of the photo functions and that's why apple rejected us twice.
I’m thankful
-
Just remove the ADS that don't work - replace them with some that do, so we can use the application.
I have been unable to use the app for 10 days now and that just unacceptable, I will probably uninstall and find a NON AD DEPENDANT software - I really liked the app, but find it useless, when I cannot be sure that it works when I need it..
You should consider hardening your code, so the app works even if it cannot get an ad, consider users that dont have WIfi access when using the app -
@Sniper
So what you are saying here is that if you resubmitted 0.95 which earlier got approved, it would now be rejected due to some new conditions at Apple?
As long as I can upload files with Discover/DiskAid, and more importantly, view the files directly as it allowed me before, I care less about any other functionality.
Keep up the great work. Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I sure agree with the idea that instead of 0.9.6 there can be a 0.9.5.1 where this ADS related issues an be handled. It is really frustrating that the app doesnt work when one really needs it. I am sure the developers can fix the ADD issue and release a bug fixed version so that we can use the beautiful app and wait for the Christmas release for new features. People are ready to support the app but the developers need to provide adequate support for the app itself.
One must remember that it is very easy to loose credentials (as many people may give a bad rating now due to the issues) than to earn good points (few people give a rating when everything is fine).
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Sniper,
It sounds like people are frustrated but we do realize this is not your fault. I do agree though that the ad page and help page should not just give a blank screen when not connected to the network (over wifi or cellular). The app should handle an offline iPhone gracefully.
If Apple won't let you have write access to the DCIM > *APPLE folders then they may let you create your own folder under DCIM. That is what DiskAid does ( http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/ ), it creates a folder called DiskAid for dropping files in over USB or wifi.
Alternatively they may allow read only access to the DCIM folders, which is better than no access.
Keep up the good work,
Matthew -
I have the same problem as everybody here, but, I rated the app with 5 stars, as I have been trying similar free apps and I would like to stick to Discover, I hope all that problems will be fixed soon!
Thank you for sharing this amazing piece of code! -
Inappropriate?same here - looking for tweaks. white screeen and crashes while opening/reading pdf has to be vanish!
I’m happy in 95% :)
-
Inappropriate?Same here, still a blank screen. BUT there is something strange. App Store writes "version 0.9.5" and it downloads... version 1.0.4 ! Anyway, i have this v1.0.4 and it's still a blank screen.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?you can try ( Sorry i'm weak in english )
1. Delete your discover 0.95 from your itouch
2. Go to recyclebin and find discover size 1.42M. and restore it
3. sync

Inappropriate?I got it to work Itouch 2.2:
I deleted discover from my Itouch
Removed discover from applications in Itunes
reset my Itouch
installed discover from itunes.
The first time I started discover it white screened.
The second time i started discovery it ran fine.
runs every time since.
the version is .95 on my itouch and 1.0.4 on the file name on my PC -
Inappropriate?well it worked ok for about 15 - 20 starts...
Now back to the white screen. :( -
I believe Discover is a well designed and aptly named program. When I run Discover, my iPhone screen emits a well-balanced, even white light that is perfect for Discover-ing, say, a keyhole at night. Keep up the great work, boyz... -
Inappropriate?Same problem here -- 3G iPhone v2.2 with a reported WiFi Discover version 1.04. Too bad -- this app was quality work.
Anyone know of any similar alternative apps? -
Inappropriate?I really liked this app. But, I'm starting to look at alternatives because of the white screen problem.

Inappropriate? Some news or progress on "Discover" from B-Base would be nice, so we can go on and choose between waiting for a working version or start looking for other solutions.

Inappropriate?3G iPhone v2.2 with a WiFi Discover version 1.04.
Same problem - white screen!
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I'm fed up!! I'll gonna look for another app like this!
You lost a friend of discover!
I’m Angry and pissed!
-
Inappropriate?reinstalled, turned off and re-turned on wifi, still doesn't work.
using ipod touch firmware 2.2
Discover v 1.04 (reported from iTune)
a little bit more specific:
Discover used to work with firmware 2.2. Not sure which version of Discover.
After the reinstall, starting up Discover prompts to request location information. Click allow twice. Then it led to a blank, white screen.
I’m really annoyed and furstrated!!!!
-
Inappropriate?I found a workaround!
You need:
DiskAid (http://www.digidna.net/diskaid/)
Be carefull using this app, you can go into "iPhone disaster" if you dont put some attention there...
Steps:
1- Discover must be installed, if not, install it.
2- Run DiskAid and select "Root Folder"
3- Browse /var/mobile/Applications/C7B6CC92-EA2B-46F8-9454-06BE92523B88
(The above numeric string could be different on your device, just try to find "Discover.app)
4- Keep browsing to find "Library/Preferences"
5- Select "mobi.bbase.Discover.plist" and delete it.
6- Exit DiskAid, run Discover and... Tadaaa!
Hope this helps someone... ;)
Cheers

Oh yes! I forgot... My iPhone is "Jailbroken"... So add "JailBreak" to the "things you need"... -
Inappropriate?Diskaid says the device has to be jailbroken to go to root? Am I missing something?
-
No, you are not missing anything... I forgot to mention iPhone has to be "jailbroken" for full acces to the device ́s folders... -
Inappropriate?Hey any solution for people without a jailbroken iPhone. Poor legitimate sould liek me need to be taken care of. I request the developers to take some fast action now. The water is rising above the neck. Somebody at the developing studio fix the bug as soon as possible or at least update us on the present status so that we have a time frame in mind and you loose people to other alternatives.
I’m sad
-
You can "jailbreak" and still being "legitimate..." -
Inappropriate?I only get this at the office which is on a 192.168.0.0 subnet. Works at home which is 10.1.1.0.
File transfers do freeze up on large files.
-
Inappropriate? Is this problem ever going to be fixed ? Or apple rejected the new version again ?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I was able to find a previous version that worked (0.9.2 or 1.0.1) in my Windows recycle bin. I renamed the current bad ipa file and restored the previous Discover.ipa file from the recycle bin. I then deleted Discover on my iPod and synced in iTunes. It now works with this older version. iTunes should have a feature to allow you to restore from a previous version.
-
Inappropriate?Steve, could you upload that version to some public file sharing service?
Thank you in advance. -
Inappropriate?is there a way to pull out files from discover before deleting it from iPod?
I’m anxious
-
If your iPhone is Jailbroken you just can use DiskAid... -
Inappropriate? Is there any way to solve this?
Got iPod Touch 2g with 2.2 soft....discover worked fine like three times now I'm just getting a white screen :S -
Inappropriate?I'm sorry to say, but the way this problem is (not) handled tends to prove that bad rating is deserved. Regardless of the product functionnality and abilities when it works, the inability of this company to solve a complete crash of the application after *several weeks* makes bad ratings normal. We don't care about new functions, as a customer I don't care of the why apple this and photos that. What I know is this product, as said above, is better at being another iphone torch than anything else. I'm moving to another solution.
I’m pissed I lost time with this app
-
Inappropriate?I urge everyone here to stop wasting your time posting comments here and instead look for other alternatives. File Magnet for one is a reliable app and so is Files. Both of them are being used by my friends with good stability and features. I am looking to "discover" an alternative for myself soon.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Discover V0.9.6 was just posted on the App Store!
It fixes the above problem. Here is a list of the changes.
0. Limited the feature of Photo folder from which you can only read photos rather than upload photos
1. Add the bookmark feature when viewing PDF or Office documents
2. Polish the menu when managing the files in iPhone
3. Fix the password protection under iPhone OS 2.2
4. Add the Simple Interface link in browser to access no-flash interface
5. Add the preference settings when viewing the TXT files, you can change the fonts, color, background and encode to view TXT files
6. More stable when viewing files
7. Fix some minor bugs
By the way, the authors of this program fixed the problem within days of it being reported. They posted an updated version to Apple 2 or 3 times. Each time it was rejected because of a feature that Apple had previously approved! They finally had to change the previously approved feature (see change #0 above) to get Apple to approve it. This slow fix was NOT the fault of bbase!

-
Inappropriate? As Steve says, the update is finally here, and app seems to be working fine again. However Steve, it's unclear if you are in the employ of Bbase but I disagree that this delay of several weeks was all down to Apple. At the time of the first rejection, Bbase should have put out the fix on it's own and worried about the extra features once we all had a working app again.
Worse still was their lack of communication - just a couple of posts over the duration of the problem, and at no point was there any hint on the description of the app on the app store that it was currently experiencing difficulties, I don't understand the point in allowing people to download an app that doesn't work. Why not put a note at the top of the description explaining the issue and direct them here - if you keep people informed they will be more likely to stick with you if the app is worth it. As it is, I can assure you I will not be buying the paid for version, and the first sniff of anything going wrong with this app in the future will see me kill the app and look elsewhere.
This is a shame, an app I had so much good to say about, up until now has gone from a 5 star to 3 star rating. I have many complaints I could aim at Apple, but in this instance Bbase should look objectively at how they dealt with this and make sure they don't make the same mistake again. -

Inappropriate?Great to be using this app again. Only had a few days of playing around with before it broke. Handy being able to transfer files between iPods so easily.
I’m Pleased
-
Inappropriate?I too would like to thank BBase for fixing the problem. I can still access the (DCIM) Photos folders too which I am very pleased about.
-
Inappropriate?I updated / re-installed three times, but can't view a single pdf. Just a single blank page pops up. Tried files from different sources, none works. I also reset my iphone 3G 2.2 two times, but that didn't help. I think I'm giving up on reading pdfs on my iphone.
I also tried a simple word file which I could not access (this gave an error message at least, "sorry, this document cannot be viewed. The document may be password protected or an error occured while reading it.".
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I don't know if you're still having this issue, but something similiar happened to me. It was working just fine, put it in my purse and took it back out within about 5 minutes...the screen was completely white. I couldn't turn it off, but I found it I held both the home and the off switch at the same time I could hear a picture being taken. I let the power run all the way down and then when I was able to link it to my laptop everything returned as desired. I haven't a clue what caused the issue, but I tell you it was very painful as I was thousands of miles from my laptop (I was traveling in South America) and I could not use the telephone, e-mail or anything.
If anyone has a solution, I'd love to know it.
