Inappropriate?Hi there, I notice you've not had a reply from someone more knowledgeable, so (though I don't work for BBC News) here's a first stab.
If you want the channel known as "BBC News" (or the "BBC News Channel" as many of us know it) then no, sorry - it's only available within the UK.
If you want the channel "BBC World News", then you're in luck. I'd recommend (only because it works with everything) LiveStation, which is a free piece of software available now at www.livestation.com - for the PC, Mac or Linux. It works very well, and as long as you're not in the UK, you can get BBC World News wherever you are (and a host of other international news providers). I'm sure other online services are available where you can also get BBC World News, but I'm most familiar with LiveStation.
Hope that helps; if any of my colleagues on BBC News wish to comment, then I'm sure they'll jump in.
I’m happy to help

wow. where did you find that? just the other day i was looking for such a 'TV on my mac' tool but never heard of this. thanks! -
Good, isn't it? I know that it's an official source of BBC World News Channel (and BBC World Service Radio), which is one of the reasons I recommend it. Glad it works for you. -
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, James' answer is wrong from Steve's point of view. Livestation is very cool and BBC World News is indeed available in many places on Livestation but not in the USA. It is blocked (based on your IP address) because they do not have the rights.
The only place I know that where BBC World News is available in the USA as an online stream is Real Networks for $5.95 per month. I think it's also on Verizon Fios and Cablevision in NYC.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Yes, sadly James was incorrect. I was able to receive BBC World News briefly via LiveStation a few months ago but I think it was a mistake in their IP detection system.
I watch BBC News 24 stream and also use iPlayer and the similar services on ITV and C4 by proxying into my server in a datacenter in London - which makes it look like I am accessing the various sites from inside the UK.
If you are confident with some command line stuff on your computer (or have a friend who is) and either a friend in the UK with a fast internet connection or can rent an account on a UK server, then you can make this work.
There are also commercial services such as http://www.uktelly.tv/ which provide the same functionality but in a slightly more user-friendly way (but cost more).
Of course it's worth pointing out the legality of this is questionable, although if you're proxying into your own equipment in UK then it becomes a particularly interesting legal scenario. UKTelly.TV is probably on very dodgy legal grounds as they are providing a circumvention and re-broadcast for profit. -
Inappropriate? So, why is BBC being blocked in the U.S.? Is the BBC subversive (sarcasm)! Is the U.S. government afraid that the population might suddenly learn something and become intellegent (now just venting)! I cannot tell you the endless frustration I feel about this issue! I wish someone could do something!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Blocking it in the US is BBC's decision, not the US government or anyone else. LiveStation have made it clear on their forums that they would like to make it available in the US. They say they've discussed it with BBC and have hinted that there may be a paid option some time but no promises.
The real problem is the fragmented and complicated nature of the US media market. I think BBC World News still hope to be carried on more mainstream cable and satellite providers. That might be more difficult if it's available for free online. I think they are also bound by some existing contracts. They are on Verizon Fios. I'm just guessing but they may have had to agree not to make it available online to secure the Fios coverage.
I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not the Real Networks service is still available. If it is then $5.95 per month isn't too bad.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?I cannot comprehend that the BEEB do not charge the license fee ONLINE to anyone interested and then let them receive the same tv that is available in theUK! This would benefit the British user, help solve BBC financial problems and solve internet from abroad use issues.
Too bloody simple and logical suppose!
