I love the fact that BBC makes it's content available for free!

Inappropriate?Only if you live in the UK -- we expat Brits have to rely on BBC America...
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Any commercials on that?
-
Inappropriate? If you live in the UK it costs about $500 a year.. not free. Thats like paying $39.95 a month - wow HBO really is cheap!
-
The UK TV license costs £140, so its actually around $210 per year. -
that's a cheap price to avoid being mislead by commercial media and wallow in ignorance. everything is relative. -
Not exactly pendolino - instead, we pay to be misled by Government controlled media. Personally, if I want news rather than Gordon Brown's heavily spun media agenda, I rely on several different news sources. The BBC has shown again and again that it cannot be trusted with the responsibility given to it in its Charter. The BBC is a thoroughly misguided institution and should be broken up into manageable and accountable entities that should compete on equal terms with other media outlets. -
Inappropriate? It doesn't quite work the same though. Even though we only effectively pay for the BBC, it's a licence fee to watch TV at all.
Besides, the BBC does some excellent public service broadcasting. Totally worth it!
-
I'd totally agree - really good value for money. -
Inappropriate?I'm about to pay our licence fee for the year - and I don't begrudge it at all. It's fashionable in some quarters to say how dreadful it is, but I'd pay it just for Radio 4 alone.
-
Inappropriate? The BBC is great value for money. The interactive services alone are excellent, and lack of commercials very welcome.
Compare that to Sky (expensive subscription model, ads every few minutes) and it stacks up very well.
Would much rather have a well funded BBC that produces a diverse range of content and public service broadcasting, than lowest common denominator programmes produced by commercial enterprises and pandering to sponsors.
I’m happy
-
To be fair, Sky's ads aren't that frequent. I watched "Twister" (a movie) on Sky 1 a while back, and there were only about 3 ad breaks in the whole film - no more then about 12 minutes of ads in total, I'd say. -
Inappropriate?Completely agree with the general consensus here; the license fee is worth it for not having to put up with hours of advertising every week.
I’m happy

+1 -
Inappropriate?i agree! the british people (i am not a briton) don't realize how widespread an impact their TV tax contributions have made to world knowledge. truly a masterpiece of independent media. bravo!
(i could pay for it and would pay for it but i can afford it and most of the world can't so please keep it free for all like wikipedia. in fact i think im going to look for a way to donate to the BBC right now)
I’m thankful
