Reordering tasks on iphone & suggestions
Hi there, just came across Taskr and it looks nice and lightweight. Hopefully a good replacement for tadalist which is a little clunky/ugly/slow for me, even though I love 37signals stuff.
My question: is it even possible to drag & reorder tasks on the iphone? It would be great if it could, but apparently it can't, so the drag link should probably be hidden.
My suggestions:
* Add a lightweight way to have multiple lists (e.g. I'd love to keep a shopping list, but that's totally separate from my other todo lists)
* Be able to uncheck a completed item. Sometimes you do something, and realize it's not actually done. :)

Inappropriate?Hey there Rich.
Actually, one of the primary reasons I wrote Taskr is because everything else I used (including Ta-da List, I'm also a big 37signals fan) was just to clunky or bloated. Taskr tries to be super simple and lightweight.
As you noticed, it's not actually possible to drag and drop on the iPhone. The primary reason it's still there is because the Adobe AIR application uses the iPhone stylesheet as well. And the AIR app has the drag and drop ability. There are a couple of solutions to the drag and drop issue, but none I've seen are very good.
Multiple lists are definitely a good idea. I know I would use the feature, however, the initial draft was meant to allow users to do two things only. Create tasks, and mark them as complete. That's the basis for a task management application and I tried to make the first version of Taskr stick to that ideal. Future development might see that feature though!
Unchecking a completed task is in the same boat as multiple lists. Not being able to "un-complete" a task doesn't create a block that people can't work around. However, it's a good idea for future improvements!

Inappropriate?Just an FYI, Rich. I've thrown up a "Lab" page on Taskr, simply to keep track of things that I'm planning on doing. (http://taskrapp.com/lab)
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I don't really need to reorder tasks on the iphone. I can use my MacBook for that. That said, it might be nice if the option was hidden when viewing tasks on the iPhone.
I’m unconcerned

Fair enough. The primary reason for leaving it there is simply laziness on my part. The Adobe AIR application is passing an iPhone user agent string to use the same base style as the iPhone. What I'll probably end up doing is creating a new user agent string for the AIR app and separating that out.
This would allow me to hide the drag handles for the iPhone which should avoid quite a bit of confusion!

Inappropriate? An update for those interested. I recently finished switching things around so the "drag" handles are hidden on the iPhone, while still there on any desktop version!

Inappropriate?I'd love to be able to 'reorder' items from the iphone... I actually would like to use taskr in a sidebar with a Gmail FluidApp and an iPhone 'useragent', but the missing piece is ability to reorder...

Unfortunately, there's currently no easy way to handle moving tasks on the iPhone. As for using a Gmail FluidApp, try passing an Adobe AIR useragent string. This should allow you to have a similar interface as the iPhone, while retaining the drag handles. There is an Adobe AIR app for the desktop if that tickles your fancy as well. -
Inappropriate?Any idea what the adobe air ua string is? You should look into adding up/down arrows for reordering instead of drag'n'drop... I noticed the dbelement Noter app is doing that on the iphone.

The primary focus of Taskr isn't to be an iPhone app. That's the main reason why reordering isn't supported yet. Arrows would require writing a whole new set of functionality specifically for the iPhone. -
Inappropriate?Ah ok -- I was thinking drag'n'drop was the issue and that the actual reorder callback function would be platform agnostic. Yeah I've just been looking around at a bunch the todo list web apps and haven't found any that allow easy reordering via a mobile version (iPhone or otherwise), although I haven't paid to use the rememberthemilk iPhone version, which is supposed to be pretty nice. Anyhow, you've got a nice app going here--good work!

RememberTheMilk has pretty feature-rich application. TaDa Lists also has an iPhone version, which allows re-ordering. Thanks!
