Hi gmasully,
I feel that Performance Service Plans (PSPs) are definitely valuable on items purchased at Best BuyTM and have purchased many myself. Products generally come with a manufacturer’s warranty. However, the PSP allows me greater peace of mind. While a standard manufacturers warranty will provide some coverage, it is usually limited to manufacturing defects only and does not cover issues that arise from normal wear and tear. A PSP offers the same benefit that a factory warranty provides, but also protects you against failures due to dust, heat, humidity, normal wear and tear, as well as power surges – since I am originally from Florida where there are more lightening strikes than anywhere in the world, I have benefited from this coverage.
There are also very specific benefits included with the PSP. A few examples of these are:
• $200 dollar reimbursement for food spoilage on refrigerator/freezer failures.
• Transmission/Drive Motor coverage on washing machine units, coverage extended 3 or 5 years beyond the factory warranty.
• Reinstallation of appliances if your original appliance was installed by Best BuyTM and we determine it has to be replaced.
• Replacement of your product if it requires four qualified repairs while the plan is active.
• Options to transfer the plan if you sell/give away the product, and renewal options for most products at the end of the original term.
• One-time battery replacement on many camcorders, digital cameras, notebook computers and cellular phones. (Being the geek I am, I have also taken advantage of this on several occasions for different products)
• Replacement of remote control should it fail to work during your service period.
• One-time bulb replacement on all DLP and LCD televisions during the life of the service plan.
• No deductible.
These are just a few reasons to purchase a PSP. There are too many to list them all here. For more information please contact your local Best BuyTM store or visit Bestbuy.com.

Inappropriate?no, its not worth the trouble the product replacement plan was good but not the service plan. they will take a long time usually to "repair" the product.

Inappropriate?Hey Spin359,
While some repairs may occasionally take longer than expected to complete, Best Buy does make every reasonable attempt to ensure that repairs are completed as soon as possible. The most common reasons for delays though are simple issues like part availability and shipping times, which Best Buy may not have control over. Simply put: if one of our technicians has to order a part directly from the manufacturer and that manufacturer tells us it won’t be available for at least one week, repairs can’t proceed until that part arrives.
While Best Buy cannot guarantee a specific completion term for repairs, we do understand that our customers cannot wait forever. As such, both our Performance Service Plans (PSP’s) and Geek Squad Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) have protections built-in to provide other alternatives should repairs prove to take an unrealistic length of time. Please keep in mind though that these situations are handled on a case-by-case basis.
Hope this helps you out!

Inappropriate? So my case does not qualify for the case-by-case. Waiting a month to repair a clothes washer with 4 kids is not a qualifying case? Understandable that parts take time, but when the service repair tech does not return calls that Best Buy asks them to return gets frustrating. When Best Buy does not want to offer alternatives. Gets frustrating. When Best Buys says "under your service plan we do not reimburse for laundry expenses out of pocket, BUT if you would have bought the new plan that came out a month after you bought your washer you would have qualified for reimbursement." It gets VERY frustrating. Best Buys answer, "We can schedule to have a service tech come out and look at it next week at the earliest." This is a timely manner?????? Sorry, had better service from other sales services. I have gone as far as suggesting a possible loaner washer until mine is fixed, "Sorry that is not a covered benefit of the PSP, We can have a service tech come out and look at your washer and try and fix it." How about a replacement since this seems to be an on going problem and the repair tech has been out twice already, "Sorry he has to make 4 attempt to try and fix it before it can be replaced" (Although this story changes everytime you talk to a Best Buy rep. it's either 4 visits, 4 fixes, 3 fixes, 3 visits, can be replaced after 1st visit if deemed so by repairman or any combination of these.) One other answer to the problem was, "If you like we can give a pro-rated refund on the service plan." Then the washer would no longer be Best Buys problem, but mine. Great Customer Service.

Inappropriate?Hello Lorne,
I’m sorry to hear about the trouble with your washing machine! I can imagine how frustrated you must feel to be without it, especially if you have a large family to look after. I would be disappointed as well in a similar situation.
Although I do not know why there would have been any confusion regarding your service plan coverage, I would be glad to clarify how a No Lemon replacement works. Best Buy® will gladly replace any product covered under Performance Service Plan (PSP) or Geek Squad® Black Tie Protection (GSBTP) whenever one or more of the following conditions are met:
• Parts are not available
• Repairs prove to be uneconomical
• Three previous qualifying hardware repairs have been performed and a fourth qualifying hardware failure has been confirmed
Please note, however, that the number of service appointments you may have scheduled has no bearing on whether or not a product is replaced.
If you are still having difficulty with your washing machine I would strongly encourage you to contact me directly at online.communities@bestbuy.com for further assistance. Simply send me an e-mail with your service plan brochure number and work order number (if available) and I’d be happy to help you find a resolution to this issue.

Inappropriate?I had a question about my camera PSP that I got. I sent the now-discontinued camera (Canon Powershot IS S3) in under the plan, and they sent back a new camera that is significantly different than the original (Canon Powershot SD 880). The one they sent back is somewhat comparable in price (possibly more expensive, but it is hard to say since Best Buy stopped carrying the replacement), but a point and shoot camera that has completely different accessories, and a very different lens and zoom system.
There is a newer version of the camera that I have that I think would be much more in line with what I have, and similar in cost to the original camera and the replacement. Do I have a say in what replacement I get? From the agreement, I understand that it has to be similar, or Best Buy can issue me store credit.
Thanks. -
Inappropriate?Hello teresa,
Whenever one of our service centers exchanges a product under our Rapid Exchange program they first attempt to replace it with the exact same model. If that model is no longer available then Best Buy replaces it with a product with comparable features and functionality. Additional accessories (such as lenses, flashes, and cases) that you may have purchased, however, do not factor into which replacement model is provided.
Now, you are correct in understanding that our stores are empowered to issue customers a store credit in the event that no comparable technology is available. Be forewarned though that gift cards are only issued at the store’s discretion otherwise, and doing so would automatically fulfill any applicable service plan coverage.
I hope this helps you out!
