Inappropriate? We need to run an HTTP daemon in the background, otherwise iTunes shows broken Podcast links. The "Real Memory" column is low, so I'm not sure it's a problem? Maybe that virtual memory is being counted from the standard HTTPD process, i.e. are you running Rails or something? I wouldn't be surprised if Apache shares memory amongst all running instances. What if you change the filter from "My Processes" to "All Processes" to see if there are other instances of httpd running?
FWIW, the virtual memory for my httpd processes is 20MB - 30MB.

Inappropriate?strange. I'm not running rails or anything. my normal apache instance is in /opt/local (using macports)
I switched to "all processes" (see attached) and didn't see any other instances of httpd running.
Originally the machine was running really slow b/c I was using VMWare at the time. Typically quitting VMWare the machine returns to normal, but although it improved it didn't fully recover. thats why I checked the activity monitor.
I guess if real memory is what matters (not sure, you imply it's more important) then this isn't a problem really. The machine is responding normally, just seems memory is higher than normal. I'll keep my eye on it, again, doesn't seem to be a problem, just caught me by surprise.
Thanks!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Well 2.5GB of virtual does seem a little unusual, as I've only seen it in the 10s of megabytes. Do keep an eye on it, and maybe even check the logs for anything weird. Just running Textcast bounces our httpd instance, so you could check the initial httpd memory to see if it starts ridiculously big, or if it grows that way over time.
Oh, and it only looks like those httpd processes have been running since this morning? Very strange, indeed...
