What determines a preview?
Some of my previews aren't representative of the font because they are showing the numbers font file for EXP PRO. Can we choose what weight represents the preview?

Inappropriate? Can you show a screenshot of such a preview? I don't understand exactly what you mean. Fontcase should be smart enough to pick the right weight, this is something that can't be changed manually.
A screenshot would be much appreciated to clarify the issue. -
Inappropriate?I am having an issue with Previews too. When I view a font and press space all is well but if I then press the arrow keys to view other fonts the preview pane is completely blank. If I press space again I can see the correct font getting smaller.

Inappropriate?Ah, I misunderstood the question. Fontcase decides which font to pick for the preview by first checking if there is a variation with a certain name, in this order:
regular, plain, medium, roman.
If none of these is found, it just picks one.
Is there no font with this variation-name in the family? -
Inappropriate?Pieter,
There is a "Regular Italic", since this display style has no non italic variation. Perhaps you could expand your query to look for the inclusion of "regular" even if italic is present? -
Inappropriate?Indeed, that would be a better tactic, I'll change the code to look for inclusion, instead of an exact match

Inappropriate?I'm just starting to have this issue... i'm not crying over it but when you scroll through all the fonts and see just an odd number of them previewed in italic its a little annoying... like when you go through itunes and their is some album artwork missing.
I've got a couple doing that even when some are of the family are labelled regular, roman or medium... it still picks italic. Is 'book' part of the selection process cause i also have a few fonts that are automatically labelled as that but are used for the preview?!
I don't know how easy it would be but perhaps you could have an option alongside this default preview selection where you open up the family, right click on a specific weight and have a option to 'select as preview'... meaning the user can control what weight gets previewed and would help override those set in odd weights to appear like those who are set as roman or regular.
I’m curious

Inappropriate?I too, would love this kind of feature, though I imagine its low on the priority list :)
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I checked and it should be working I believe in the latest version. Can you try if it works; get info on a font that needs a new preview and put a checkmark in front of the family name; that will prompt Fontcase to re-cache. :-)
