Add proxy services into the Boxee (free and pay services) to access Hulu etc
THe possibility to choose from a selection of built in supported proxies services (free and payment services). So people outside the US, can access geo-targetting services such as HULU, Netflix etc.
Even better would be the possibility to set one proxy service for each country... so u can access BBC iPlayer and Hulu, without having to manually switch proxy settings.

Inappropriate?Adding a username and password authentication option into the proxy option in boxee would be great
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Might be better to allow a proxy service on an app by app basis.
-
Inappropriate?Potential legal issue if Boxee had a built in method of circumventing the geolocking?
I’m indifferent
-
There's absolutely nothing illegal about using a proxy or VPN. Nothing in US or international law speaks about keeping non-US residents from watching US-made TV. It's a contractual matter between the content-providers and hulu, not a legal matter anyone else should care about. Though possibly, Boxee in their contract with Hulu might have such caveats. -
Inappropriate?Whilst I like the idea, this would hurt any relationships boxee has (or wants to have) with any content providers.

Inappropriate?Yes, yes, yes!
I would fork out lots of money to get iPlayer and Hulu in Russia. Again, no legal issues - all your doing is routing your traffic through a physical server located in the USA (UK f/ iplayer) and paying for the privilege.
Please, please, please?
There are so many expats out there who would love you for this. The only alternatives we have at the moment is buying a 4 meter dish...
I’m praying for it to happen

Well hulu is somewhat of a moot point now, but I'd advise you to check out the boxee forums where a user has implemented a vpn plugin into boxee. All you would need for iplayer is this plugin + vpn service in the UK and you would have all you need.... -
Inappropriate? This is a MUST HAVE for boxee if not by them maybe the xbmc guys can help
I’m confident

Inappropriate? What we really need is to have someone set up a server in both the US and the UK for boxee users to proxy into. The proxy setup can be done on the back end easily we just need a stable server for the users that will not go down and can have authentication so it inst overrun by non boxee users.
I’m high with ambitions of a perfect world.

entropy seems to flow one way but back on topic i think you should check out witopia and see what they offer. their VPN service is quite good. -
Inappropriate?A dedicated server with unlimited bandwidth and a good-enough processor costs around $300 / month and can support up to 50, maybe 100 people. Do the math - If someone offered to start up a server for this, did all the backend and took 5--10$/mo, they would make a *lot* of money and make 50--100 people very happy. I assume that the UK setup will cost about the same, but there is one problem:
Who will code boxee so that it supports different proxies for different programs?
I’m unsure
-
just go to witopia.net -
cbennet - it would if you used this: The CloakBoxTM is WiTopia’s pre-configured, plug-and-play VPN Router solution. (http://www.witopia.net/index.php/prod...) -
Inappropriate?makes sense. we need to look into it.

might I suggest looking at foxyproxy for ideas, as this idea has been implemented with it on firefox -
Inappropriate?I am fine if we get something permanently set up in Boxee that works well, even if I have to add my own vpn through a separate company. Love to see this.
-
Inappropriate?nice to see this discussion going on. i was looking for a way to use my US VPN settings in boxee for accessing geoprotected content.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?I like it!

Inappropriate? That would be great! But it should be in an app by app basis. Or at least like foxyproxy, where only specific url's use a proxy.

Inappropriate?you could use www.yasaksiz.org
