Alternate Movie Names - Media Tagging
Boxee should have a different naming convention than the current one, and should also have a different way of recognizing files. Right now, it just takes the filename and queries it against imdb, but there are a few flaws here:
These are a few problems that I have personally had, I'm not sure if others have had more issues. Anyway, I think that Boxee should:
- Movies named differently than the ones on IMDB are completely ignored and do not resolve.
- Movies not listed on IMDB are completely ignored and do not resolve.
- Movies with foreign titles are displayed in that language.
- Alternate titles are not always recognized.
These are a few problems that I have personally had, I'm not sure if others have had more issues. Anyway, I think that Boxee should:
- Recognize the physical filename (whether it is in IMDB or not), and if it is in IMDB, it can fetch the data.
- Display alternate movie titles if the file that has been resolved was resolved using an alternate title. For example, I have a movie called "Life is Beautiful". This is an Italian movie and the name resolves to "La vita è bella" even though I have the physical filename in English. This means that Boxee has used the alternate title in IMDB to fetch the data, so why not stick to that title that it used?
