Boxee As MythTV Frontend
Mythtv has the ability to be installed as a backend a frontend or both. it would be awesome if I could install mythv as the backend and boxee as my frontend.
This would also be great if I have a backend installed in another part of the house too and boxee could share the backend with another tv or multiple tvs.

Inappropriate? Not sure how possible this would be, but that would be pretty amazing.
-
Inappropriate?I'm certainly experimenting with Boxee as a *Freevo* frontend, but the approach is similar. Freevo's recordserver dumps out files & metadata, the former of which Boxee can pick up directly.
-
Inappropriate?Currently, Boxee can configured to play files from MythTV's recording directory via a local directory or network share.
I think the original idea was related to getting live tv, the schedule, and other Myth frontend features available from Boxee (which would be ridiculously amazing) . -
Inappropriate? There was a much better way that that agentlame had figured out you could do that he talked about in the forums: http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?...
The problem is that it no longer works. I tried playing via a local network share and for one reason or another, the video files would lockup Boxee. This way will definitely not be a replacement. I would also need to be able to delete the files as well. -
Inappropriate?the functionality was removed at the xbmc level. more info & how-to use smb + mythrename.pl here: http://forum.boxee.tv/archive/index.p...

Inappropriate? You know, there's "mythbox", which is a myth plugin for xmbc... can we make this a permanent feature of boxee?

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?Using mythbox you could listen to localhost for the myth server stream and do it that way, providing you need it on the localbox.
-
Inappropriate?I think mythbox for xbmc looks amazing and it would be an excellent addition to Boxee.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I've recently had luck connecting to my myth backend as a upnp source. The shows and channels are listed correctly but the video fails to play about 50% of the time. I too think that mythbox would be the answer. You would be able to mange recordings as well. Thanks Boxee!
I’m Hopefull

Inappropriate?Like everyone else, I would love to see myth:// support. You can use smb://. but the names are not human friendly, unless you want to use myth_rename.pl. UPnP is iffy at best.
Boxee brings everything I want to a HTPC.. except for myth support.
I’m a sad panda

Inappropriate? If we could get this fixed it would be a no brainer to switch from mythfrontend. Boxee has everything I need in a media centre apart from Live TV over DTV support. Myth is already a brilliant system for this apart from the frontend, which is the bit Boxee does well. DTV isn't going anywhere, and with this functionality Boxee becomes the all-in-one set top box we've all dreamed of.

Inappropriate?xbmc has a new mythtv plugin called mythbox - I wonder if this could be ported easily to Boxee...
-
Inappropriate? This actually works now with the latest version! I submitted a trouble ticket for it and Marcel replied with:
It should work with the latest version please see this thread http://forum.boxee.tv/showthread.php?...
I haven't tried it yet but others seem to be stoked! Thanks Boxee.

Inappropriate? My mythtv box is under my tv and I can use boxee on my desktop across the house to browse my recorded shows and watch them, which is awesome! I don't have a need to watch live tv as I pretty much use mythweb to manage my recordings. Previously, I was using my PS3 as upnp client to watch, which worked well too. However, the less switching between devices, the better....not that I'm not capable, but everyone in my house is frustrated when they have to switch devices to watch their preferred content. Say it with me...*total media convergence must be had*
I’m happy

Inappropriate?+1 for mythbox or equivalently intuitive interface
-
Inappropriate?I have spoken to the MythWeb developer and been told that they would support efforts to get MythWeb working with Boxee and help expose the JSON api of MythWeb. Any takers I am happy to contribute to such a project but don't really have the time to take the lead. Is this the best way to do it comments please...
I’m excited

Inappropriate?+1 for this. I have held off on setting up a new media player (was XBOX + XBMC, separate box for live tv) until I could find something that works with both live tv and prerecorded video files.
