Enable FTP on ATV Boxee
Recommend enabling FTP on Apple TV implementation of Boxee - aTV Flash do this, and I get 430KB/s upload instead of 80KB/s with Boxee. This link might help? http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable...
Note this is how I get most content onto Boxee. Wired solution not practical in my house. Also I don't watch much streamed content, so this function is kinda a deal breaker - had to roll back to aTV Flash :-(

Inappropriate?Your comment "wired solution not practical" implies you're using wifi ... why not just share your files with SMB over wifi? No need to FTP at all, then.

I'm afraid I don't know what SMB is...it isn't an option in Cyberduck. I've done a quick web search and it looks as though it's mainly a Windows thing?
I guess my point is that there are workarounds (for instance I could try and hook up a USB drive to the Apple TV) but the FTP thing seems like a simple barrier to resolve. And this barrier doesn't exist in aTV Flash.
Cheers,

SMB is the protocol used by Windows for file sharing, you'll probably hear it referred to as Samba.
You can set your (presumably Mac) desktop to share your files over the network, then just tell Boxee to browse the shared file.

That being said, I would assume Boxee can use another protocol (AppleShare, AFS, AppleTalk?) to pull the files off your Mac on-the-fly.
Apologies if I'm getting this wrong ... but FTPing a file to Apple TV just seems like too much hassle for me. I wouldn't want to pick something to watch then have to FTP it over. Hope this helps? :) -
Inappropriate?Hiya, thanks for your continued responses, much appreciated!
I have an unusual setup. Being based in the UK, I use my iMac to download stuff from the States overnight. Then I send the files over to the Apple TV wirelessly, and also use a separate hard drive occasionally attached to the iMac to back up the files. Simple drag and drop appeals (Cyberduck does this over FTP or SFTP, doesn't offer SMB / Samba, Boxee instructions didn't mention this). Also to be honest I don't watch streamed content much, so the Boxee user interface is a bit too busy for me. I like that the aTV Flash solution just extends the Apple TV navigation for me, as does the wife who's even less tech savvy than I am!
I'm taking the line of least resistence here, aTV Flash does everything I need and I don't have to research / understand AppleShare, AFS, AppleTalk, and work out how to configure both machines. At some point I'll try Boxee again, at which point if FTP isn't enabled I'll have a look at SMB / Samba. For now I've paid for aTV Flash a while ago and it's meeting my needs.
I realise this probably isn't what the Boxee community wants to hear but figured that being open about it might help in some way...
Thanks again for your help,
Phil
