boxee will look automatically at your local Movies, Music and Pictures folders on the Mac, but boxee can also scan your PC, storage device or any other device it is able to find on the network.
to add a new folder you'd like boxee to scan you need to:
1. go to Settings
2. select Media Sources
3. select Network Sources
4. select Add New Source (boxee will scan your local network for devices)
5. choose the device you'd like to add, select the folder and click Add Source
6. you'll be asked to provide a name for the new source and choose whether the folder contains Video, Music or Pictures
7. click Add and you're done
boxee will start scanning these folders and every time it finds new content you'll be able to see it in Recently Added on your home screen

Inappropriate?Hi, having a similar problem.
I have ripped DVDs on a network mounted drive.
I go to settings, media sources
From there I've tried adding a network source and manually adding a source.
The source I add is the directory that contains the ripped movies (all in their own directories).
It says that source was successfully added.
I assume then it automatically scans the sources (but there doesn't seem to be an indication of what activity is going on).
I go to the main screen and there is no sign of any of the movies being added.
Thanks for any guidance.

Inappropriate?Hi pbg,
This is a known issue with the current version (there are some problems with the network shares), and we're working to make this right.
However, there's a chance that boxee just didn't recognize your ripped DVD movies. Do these movies' file names contain the name of the movie? Have you tried getting to the ripped DVD folder browsing through boxee, and doing a manual resolve on these movies?
Please try these, and tell us how it turned out.
Thanks,

Inappropriate? This is the biggest issue for me. This should be as simple and easy as possible.
My setup:
Boxee TV
Mac Mini w/ Sony Bravia XBR
Networked via WiFi
Media Server
Mac Pro w/ AFP file sharing turned on
Networked via Gb Ethernet
The Mac Pro has a media folder with all of my videos/movies shared over AFP. There's no login required to read the files.
I have made this all work through boxee but it was quite an experience indeed. I would love to see this streamlined as much as possible.
I’m ok with this, but it could definitely be better.

Inappropriate?I have Boxee Alpha for Windows and it appears I have the same problem. I have tried your suggestions and others without success.

Inappropriate?ditto with all the above -
Alpha for Windows, NAS with ripped DVDs in their own folders.
i add the network source, i've renamed the files to ensure they're recognizable, i've even tried only adding one DVD file folder at a time so that boxee wasn't scanning the whole library.
nothing.
please help!

Inappropriate?I don't get adequate feedback, I don't know if it's scanning or not. How many files did it find but not get info for?
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?I'm using an iMac G5 running OS X 10.4. I have manually added my mac to boxee on atv using ip address 192.nnn.1.10/myname. Boxee see's my computer but fails to see any of the divx files in my public folder.
I've enabled File Sharing and Windows SMB. Everyone says to add files using the + symbol in Windows File Sharing options, but this is only available in OS X 10.5 not 10.4.
Any ideas?

Inappropriate?I have a Drobo connected to a Mac Mini and shared on the network. I'm running Boxee on my MacBook Pro. I'd like Boxee to index the media files on the Drobo.
I go to:
Settings / Media Sources / Add New Source
Boxee thinks for a few seconds and then I get the dialog "Error 2: share not available"
I click OK and Boxee hangs (the hang is new behavior with the 0.9.9 alpha AFAICT).
If I mount the Drobo locally, I can add it as a local source, which is better than nothing :/
Ideas?
Also, do I need to add each individual folder on the drive as a separate source--or can I add the root, tell Boxee it contains all types of media, and it will scan everything? In other words, is scanning recursive? Because I don't see it finding any new files when I add the root.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?note that some drive letters are system saved for specific uses, so in case you have the networked shares mapped and assigned under a drive letter, the solution would be to rename your drive to another letter - Z T U Q and H are off limits.
-
Not much help to me as a Mac user, I'm afraid :( -
Inappropriate?Network shares are still not working for me in the latest versions. The workaround I mentioned above (mounting the drive locally and then adding /Volumes/Drobo as a local source) isn't a good solution either, because OSX sometimes calls the share Drobo-1 and Boxee gets all confused.
Boxee would make me deliriously happy if this was addressed. It gets old copying files back and forth from the share.
I’m long-suffering

Inappropriate?I have a good answer to this question on the Macintosh.
It took me quite some time to solve this issue, so here are the steps to make it work for you:
- If you ever had Boxee before and it worked for you and now it does not:
- Delete the Boxee application from the application folder
- Go to yourUserName/Library/Application Support and erase the Boxee directory
- Download and install the last version of Boxee
- Mount the remote drive in your machine
- In the finder hit shift-apple-G type the following:

- Do note the name of the drive were your files are ( it may differ from the name you gave to the drive)
- Go to the applications/utilities/terminal
- Open Terminal
- Type:
cd movies
hit return and then create a Sim Link of the folder within the remote drive you want to use as a source like this.( this is the article with the information about what you are doing. Read it i you have never used the terminal before: DON'T MESS UP YOUR MACHINE!)
ln -s /Volumes/theNameOfYourDrive/theNameOfTheVideoFolder theNewFolder
Hit return and you are done
- If you check your movies folder in your user space you will notice a new folder with an alias like icon: it looks like this:

- If you click on this folder you should see your video or music files
- Now open Boxee and put your login and password
- Hit the letter "a" on your keyboard and a screen will show you the progress of scanning your video and music folders
- Go to eat, do your taxes or have a good stroll around your city and let it sit there for 4 or 5 hours. Depending on the size of your library this can take more or less
- Upon arriving back checkout how many of the files were rejected in the folders: higlight each folder, hit "a" again to see a list with all the rejected files, you can add them manually or rename them to get better recognition out of Boxee
- Have fun with your new usable Boxee library
Make sure that you only view the simlink folders created using this method when you have the remote drive on your desktop, otherwise you will get a finder error. - If you ever had Boxee before and it worked for you and now it does not:

Inappropriate?Boxee can only be installled on intel based machines. I have an appletv...but am running Tiger on a G4 (non-intel). How do I configure things for my AppleTV without the app on my computer?
-
Inappropriate? This is a bug that should be really simple to fix. Since I'm storing all of my media files on a NAS it's effectively preventing me from using Boxee at all! I'm able to att the network sources and browse them manually, but I can't get Boxee to scan them and add the content to the library.
