Internationalization
International (for me personally, espacially German) Internet streams would be awesome in the future. Are you guys looking into this anytime soon or is it all US for now?
I also would be interested in your internationalization plans from a business development perspective... is Europe, for example, an interesting market for you guys in the beginning of the business?

Inappropriate?we are internally focused on the US, and may do some stuff for the UK, soon.
Germany is our 3rd largest user-base (after US & UK), so we should probably give it attention, but will probably need some outside help

Inappropriate?I hope that Sweden (or 'Scandinavia') is Boxee's 4th largest user-base ;)
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? If Boxee decides to add feeds by location, please, please, please give everyone access regardless of their actual location. I hate that living in the US I can't buy Japanese music from iTunes, well not from the entire catalog. Don't let that happen here if at all possible. I'd love to be able to access German feeds.
I’m excited

the issue is that there is a lot of content that is geo-blocked. for example, today all users have access to Hulu on boxee, but only the US users can actually use it (unless you're using a VPN) -
Another thing this brings up is that the list of locations available in the settings is tiny. I'm in Hong Kong and Singapore, but Asian countries aren't even there.
I've put together a fairly detailed Country > Region > City database for a project at work, I'm sure we could donate it if you'd like it. -
Inappropriate?Please don't forget Canada, ctv.ca, cbc.ca, etc.
What about the idea of setting up development groups in other countries that could work on countries specific content?

i think getting developers around the world adding content to boxee is the only realistic way for us to handle this challenge -
Inappropriate? All the German speaking countries like Germany, Switzerland and Austria have some great content you could use for Boxee. All the big TV Stations have good online content like:
- ZDF Mediathek
- ARD Mediathek
- 3Sat Mediathek
- Phoenix Bibliothek
- sf.tv Videos (Swiss Televison)
- IPTV ORF.at (Austrian Television)
- WDR Mediathek
- MDR Mediathek
- RTL Now
- N24 Mediencenter
- Sat1
- Pro7
-etc.
Another great advantage: Most, if not all of them have no geo-locking, So this would also be appreciated by German speaking users in USA and all over the world.

Inappropriate?Yeah, also, during setup, it could ask you what country you are in and only show the ones that work/have been tested in your country, another idea is to allow different proxies for different apps in boxee, I would love to be able to access everything (I started watching chuck in Hulu with a proxy and never got to finish it >_<)
I’m frustrated at content geo-restrictions
-
Inappropriate? You can make this with a Sociable solution:
Make a Wiki "List" of Stream's per country:
German sites:
mms://german.1.site
mms://german.2.site
flv://german.3.site
Spain sites:
mms://spain.1.site
...
This way, every body can help and list is updated.

Inappropriate?Something that drives me mad is that I go to the trouble of finding something awesome, wait a minute or so for buffering etc., then I'm told I can't view it because of geographical restrictions! (I'm in Australia).
Be really, really, really nice to either not see the content as an option in the first place (if I can't view it), or at least tell me i can't view it due to being in Australia "you can't view this because the content provider will screw you locally".

Inappropriate? This seems like a great idea, but i think it would be better if you could just add your own feeds.
In Portugal you can't view most of the channels you have ( most mtv vids can't show, iplayer, hulu, etc..)
Is there any way we could actually add our own channels? is that even possible at all?

Inappropriate?Look at PLEX (www.plexapp.com) They now have lots of regional content see here: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/Uns...
I’m using PLEX
-
Well, PLEX happens to be based on XBMC, just like Boxee, so it should be possible to use the content/links they compiled for Boxee as well. -
Just because Plex doesn't run on Linux doesn't exclude it from the discussion, too. We're talking about features we want to see in Boxee. -
Inappropriate?Yep, that is correct ... but the XBMC version does :-)
At the end we all want to have EASY HD-TV regardless where the content resides!

Inappropriate?Just one more thing ... many content providers prevent people from outside their primary markets to view the content ... even if it is FREE ...
A workaround is to use a PROXY inside that country ... a good service is available here:

Inappropriate?Found a site (www.findinternettv.com) that lists for internet streaming sites all over the internet, they even list the sites by country (http://www.findinternettv.com/OnlineT...)...Hopefully findinternettv.com can help Boxee interact with all international streams out there.
