main screen customization
Allow main screen customization. I like boxee but have no interest in social aspect. Would love to be able to setup my own folders etc. to display at start instead of the "other user" and friends stuff.

i agree. users should be able to customize their homescreen.

i love this idea, every user has different taste when it comes to content. some channels are hidden very deep in the menu structure (TED for example). frontpage customization would help a lot to make the experience even more amazing.
I’m happy about boxee even without it.

Inappropriate?we'll have to give this some thought. It's not in our short-term task list, but maybe further ahead in the future (or have enough people voting for this idea, so we might change our priorities... ;)).
-
Inappropriate?I just added a comment to the other somment with what my (theoretically) simple solutions would be, without affecting any of the existing framework or structure.

Inappropriate?I'm not even sure if customize is the correct term to use here. If you gave us a say, 5 different "home screens" to choose from we can select of of those from the options and be done with it.
I'm voting for a list of new files along the bottom and on the top a list of sources. HULU, MTV, JOOST, Video Podcasts and local / network sources. XBMC allows for this sort of thing to happen since each screen is numbered we're just picking which screen number to display on startup.

Inappropriate?I wouldn't mind keeping the friends recommendations/history in a submenu (i.e. Social media folder) or as a scrolling RSS feed at the bottom of the menu.

Inappropriate?Absolutely, this is a no-brainer.

Inappropriate?Being able to add new and remove menu options would be great. This way you could link the menu options to applications/scripts/plugins, or media folders.

Inappropriate?I'd also like this feature on a micro scale. For example, when I click on Hulu, for it to start on my "queue" rather than on the leftmost column.
-
Inappropriate?Cross referencing this with another thread I posted a while back. Probably the customize/customise spelling caused it not to be found by getsatisfaction...
-
Inappropriate?please dont take time away from cool features to do this, but maybe another skin? or hell, i love designing things, lets have an option to edit some css and change it ourselves, perhaps even share these new skins online with other boxee users!! just an idea....
I’m cant wait!

Inappropriate?this is an essential ingredient for the interface, (particularly given boxee's current userbase demographic, and it's XMBC heritage). customising should be included along with downloadable skins, (to simplify the feature for non-technical users).
that said, it's something that could wait until ~1.0.0 release, since there are clearly more pressing fundamental issues with the system.
my preference would be an icon-based, smartphone widget-style appearance, as opposed to the bland folder-tree-style text interface currently used.

Inappropriate? As a UK User I find it annoying that the homescreen is full of services (Hulu, Pandora, CBS etc) that I cannot use due to location reasons. Either allow me to remove services or automatically remove services that I cannot access
-
Inappropriate?Totally agree. I like the ability to browse and view content. But have no interest in sharing what I am viewing with others.
Focus should be to increase the amount of content. The user tracking should be optional and voluntary.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?100% agree. My request below is related: allow users to create their own "folders" that aggregate content from any source (Netflix, Hulu, local, etc.). That is exactly what the "Recently Used" and "Recently Added" folders already do:

Inappropriate? It would be very nice to have a way to customize what is on the start screen and how it is arranged. Also it would be nice if we could use system screensavers with boxee too so that programs like bonic can be supported.

Inappropriate?I would like 'APPS' customization to work like google gadgets whereby you are able to define folder tabs that contain widgets/gadgets of your choice (you can also move, update, delete etc.). All of this is browser independent (I use Firefox). Google does this by allowing you to select from 100's or thousands of gadgets. For example, I break up my tabbed folders into news, science, entertainment and tools. They even have a method to write your own gadget. Each gadget is contained in a mini window that you can reposition for better real estate.
-
Inappropriate?Agreed with bomura. BTW, the app is great, but yeah, I was kinda sad when I noticed I couldn't change any aspect of the home screen just like other programs like XBMC... I love boxee though, it looks and feels better, but it lacks customization :(
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Absolutely.
This would be great
