OTA (over-the-air) Digital TV Transmissions - DVB-T, Freeview...
Personally I'd love to see Boxee support OTA (over-the-air) digital television transmissions (in the UK, Freeview and Freeview+ which includes PVR facilities)
I think this format is used fairly widely - although I gather not in the US?
Details can be found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_...
And official consortium site http://www.dvb.org/
This would be a killer feature for set top boxes, removing the need for a separate set top box for terrestrial broadcasts. I believe XBMC already supported TV Tuners? Maybe I'm wrong though...
I hope there are other people who see this as an important and extremely useful feature :)

Inappropriate?its certainly a very important feature.
as you, i believe its gone drive a lot of people to throw away their current broadcast solutions and go for a leaner live broadcast solution with advanced on demand features.
we are following closely on OTA developments and we certainly want to see boxee with OTA features in the near future. -
Inappropriate?Imagine a world where all you need for all your DVD, network, internet, and OTA video (and audio) is a little Mac Mini (or future Boxee box) - how slick would it be to have just one remote, one GUI, one diminutive device. I've not seen anything that looks quite as slick as Boxee so far, and with the extra features it would be incredible. I'd love to see the Boxee team rise to the challenge of designing the nicest, clearest, most attractive and user-friendly EPG ever - I have a lot of faith in you guys :D
Thanks for supporting my idea :)

this is one of the best points

Inappropriate?I'd love this, but that's a heck of a lot of work. Almost something for a whole separate team to tackle.
For an example of a DVR done right, check out the MyStuff mod for the Toppfield freeview tuner:

I think "heck of a lot of work" depends on what we're looking for. If it's just support for tuners (e.g., HD Homerun), it should be fairly simple. MythTV is ALMOST there (is has a "Live" option). So the amount of work needed really depends on which "front end" we're talking about. I'd like to see Boxee support as many as possible and the ones that are easiest should be done first. Right now, I'd be happy w/ working MythTV support (I have an ATSC tuner in my MythTV box). -
Inappropriate?MythTV is kinda ugly looking lol - Personally I quite like the BT Vision (uk service) EPG and PVR functionality. I found out however, that this is built on Microsoft Mediaroom http://www.microsoft.com/Mediaroom/ - which might seem bad to some, but the clarity of the BT Vision EPG is excellent - I really can't fault it for speed or attractiveness.
To be honest PVR functionality is 'would be great to have' feature, but working with TV Tuners is something I think is essential - and for that to work nicely there needs to be an EPG - and I have faith in the Boxee team to make something beautiful :D -
Inappropriate?I currently use Vista Media Center for OTA HD viewing, I would like to switch to boxee someday, hint hint.
-
Inappropriate? For Linux just use the Mythtv Backend, for Windows use MediaPortal TV Server!!!!
-
Inappropriate?I'm not sure this goes with the whole benefit of boxee being free. But I would think that companies like BeyondTV or SageTV (i.e., paid software) would be interested in working to implement their software into boxee so long as they could charge for it. I wouldnt mind paying for some software if it could work within boxee. Maybe the boxee folks should approach a third party developer about creating some sort of paid plugin?

Inappropriate?I've been pretty vocal about wanting MythTV support - but I also understand that MythTV is pretty hard core. Support is not great and the community is nothing like the warm and friendly boxee community... nevertheless, having a power mythTV backend with a boxee frontend would totally complete my setup :D
Right now, we use Myth and a script from agentlame that creates a sym link to the recordings with file names that Boxee can recognize. Its nice for recorded shows, but makes live TV tricky... the solution has been EyeTV which can use our HDhomerun or Elgato tuner... I'd much rather have a solution in Boxee. -
Inappropriate?I really want eyeTV front-end support, either that or MythTV support for the eyeTV stick and mythTV front-end support in boxee
That way, you would just be making a UI over the top of what has already been made
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Give it ATSC and QAM support and I won't have to spend months trying to get my MythTV backend to do what I want it to do..Thanks guys!

Inappropriate?Would love to see this made possible on the ATV.
Currently I use a PS3 with PlayTV for my dvr and it works great (the guy sitting next to me at work designed the user interface so can't say anything bad about it :). If anyone knows the product we had nothing to do with the branding unfortunately (don't want to be tainted by that one).
For all other things though I use boxee so would be great to slim down to just one box for all my entertainment needs. Plus the speed and enthusiasm the boxee team put into making requests for new features made real I am sure it would be a winning product.
