The Download feature: RSS Broadcatching, WebUI, and more
I grab most of my TV viewing these days via Bittorrent RSS broadcatching.
For those unfamiliar;
Basically an RSS Feed scanner within or outside your bittorrent client scans the relevant feeds (http://tvrss.net/...) looking for matching Regular Expressions (such as battlestar.galactica.+([ph]dtv|dsrip) ). It then automagically downloads new files that appear on the feed and loads them in your bittorrent client, using smart episode managers to make sure you only download something once.
Anyway, Boxee's download feature will only be useful to me with an RSS autodownloader. However, it'll need some kind of smart tv show implementation, because people aren't going to type in regex on their AppleTVs. Something like ted (http://www.ted.nu/) where you just choose the shows is probably the way to go.
Obviously, implementing a smart episode handler - one that takes care of PROPER releases too is important as well.
Additionally, there should be a way to initiate a download from within Boxee. Basically, this means a search feature. While I'm partial to the idea of having a browser within Boxee, the bare minimum is to connect to a public torrent tracker search api. If there would be a browser, private trackers become a viable option too, which is great.
Another important feature I'd like to see is a WebUI. I don't know that the rest of Boxee needs to be controlled via the web, but anything to do with acquisitions/downloads/recordings/timers should be accessible via a WebUI.

Inappropriate?Another neato possible advantage of HTTP remote control interface : iPhone remote control App! Maybe it's worth considering for the rest of Boxee as well afterall...

The iPhone remote control app now exists: http://blog.boxee.tv/2009/03/15/boxee... -
Inappropriate?I really like this idea... It would be neat to just get a list such as in iTunes. Where you just get information about all tv-shows available and then you can "add to subscription".
And Boxee will download and add the files to the library as they are released on the internett.
Having this tied in with friends recommendations, and friends activity. So if they watch an episode of "South Park" you can just add to subscription.
And Boxee will start downloading episodes for that Tv-show from the day of subscribing.
@ Telecart: Great suggestion
I’m see a great future for Boxee

Inappropriate? This would be my ideal solution for downloading TV shows. A few potential issues the developers would need to consider:
- Which torrent tracker(s) to support by default. Since so much of Boxee's functionality relies on building relationships with content distributors, the devs have to be careful not to step on any toes. They don't want to get sued for "enabling illegal downloads" or "promoting piracy".
- How to enable HD files (if available) vs. SD files.
- Automatically un-archiving RAR files, trashing extraneous junk, and moving the file to a logical directory in the hierarchy.
