Where are the emulators?
Emulators, who lives without them? Why there is no an media channel for emulator games? I was wondering if I myself could compile any emulator to use inside the Boxee!

+1 for adding a Emulator ROM Launcher plugin to Boxee.
Would be great to use third-party MAME, NES, and SNES emulators as backend applications for this to enable casual games playing from Boxee.
There are many legal emulator ROMS of old games available out there that are classed as abandonware, or copyright has expired under law, or even been granted to the public domain by the original copyright holder.

Inappropriate?Like I commented on another topic that involved emulation, I plan on eventually incorporating emulation into my HTPC. It would be wonderful to be able to launch this straight from Boxee without having to rummage through a file manager. Further, I think that having a list of the games available to play - much like in the picture shown above - would be perfect!
I’m thinking this could be awesome
-
Inappropriate?+100 ... although if it could just launch another App I'd be happy (can it?) -- say launch Emulaunch, with boxee backgrounding until Emulaunch resumes?
I’m hoping this w00tness happens

...it is just too bad that Awen now seam to gone M.I.A.
I think that the main point here is that the actual GUI front-end launcher code has to be cross-platform compatible (for Linux/Mac/Windows) and that it is tightly integrated into XBMC/Boxee existing GUI library and consistent with the layout and navigation of XBMC/Boxee skins today. -
Inappropriate? This is the last piece of the puzzle I need - boxee will be my one stop HTPC software with this added in!
I’m happy

I think your comment could add to this if it were actually legible... I'm not trying to be rude or badger you, but posting so sloppily is a real disservice to the rest of us, I feel... -
sorry. now i see, some errors, and i also sorry you for, my grammar errors. but my english... ehhh no coments :P it's very bad -
Inappropriate? No worries rasq; if you just cleaned up the spelling in the original post, it wouldn't be too bad ;)
I’m glad we understand eachother

Wrong moodstamp(?) as it applies to the the whole topic for rating, and not just a single reply ;) -
Inappropriate?I hope this happens. From other posts it seems like Boxee is forking XBMC, if it's possible to integrate plugins to XBMC a lot of pieces would fall into place. (Emulation and Library Mode stand out to me.)
I’m Excited by the idea!

Inappropriate?awesome idea. i plan on building a HTPC to put in the house me and some of my mates are renting next fall. being able to run old school snes or nes games through boxee would really take this project to the next level. -this one is looking forward for this to happen.
I’m demanding this be done!!
-
Inappropriate?Yes, Yes, Yes!! This would make me completely change from GameEx! All of my needs in one place.
I’m seconding the motion!!
-
Inappropriate?Oh please no - its a Media Center not a games machine - get a console!!
Let the guys concentrate on making it the best Media Center out there - Other media centers that went in this direction failed or stagnated!!
I’m Scared

Correlation does not imply causation. All this would take is allowing Boxee to work as a front-end to launch an emulator at least, and a more involved approach would be to just index the games that one has and launch them through the emulator. I fail to see how that will be a death knell for Boxee. Also, there are many home-brew, abandonware (really, most roms played are probably abandonware by now), and other games simply not available for a home console. -
Not to nitpick, but games are media too. If you're not playing them then you are in the minority. If you don't see a place for them in Boxee then your not looking far enough ahead. Just my opinion. -
Inappropriate?Joshua - Of course - everyone is entitled to their opinion but many other media centers have failed trying to have too much function and being a jack of all trades - master of non - Look at MediaCentral
Let the guys build a near perfect app for playing, sharing, and discussing audio and video files - when that is perfected maybe then...
If Boxee would run on a PS3 - Now theres a solution that would make everyone happy -
Inappropriate?I definitely like the idea of adding emulator support to boxee. Especially ZSNES and Mupen64plus
-
Inappropriate?Yes, it's definitely a good idea. It's an big step to make Boxee not Media, but Entertainment Center.

Inappropriate?I really do not understand why the frontend UI world does not consider games as media they should include. Especially you guys at Boxee. I think a pretty strong argument could be made for games as a social meduim, especially in today's world. Even if you dont look act serious gaming, who wouldnt want to be able to launch board games, crozz word puzzles, hangman, etc. Everyone i know, soccer moms to gamers, would welcome being able to launch games easily from nice UI either on a pc, htpc, or extender. I have assisted many friends and family members with media frontends and majority of them like Boxee for its aesthetic, ease of use for adding apps, and online scrapers for movies/tv. If it had a games library, with built in cover art scraper, same UI features, and maybe game trailers, i think it would take the world by storm.Hell, maybe integrate something like the upcoming Onlive service which is the game equivalent to Netflix. That would be something else. Soccer moms easily be able to laucnh games for the kids and gamers get slick UI and organization for games (pc and emulator).
My main goal right now is settling on media front end which has game support, pc, emulator, and maybe even online; but they all have cons:
7MC: w/Media Studio Center app can add a game strip, but not very attractive adding games to this stip. No fancy views, just basic cover art and no automatic online scraper. Could use GamesEX, Emulauncher plugin, Maximus Arcade, but still just do not flow/look as good. Plus to complicated for newbies.
XBMC: beautiful, but no offical games library yet. launcher plugin nice, but no slick UI yet. Just Cover art (unless i missed something). Also, novices find it too difficult in my experience: adding plugins, svn installers, scripts, etc.
GamesEX or Maximux Arcade: nice features, but aesthetic just not as sophisticated as 7MC, XBMC, and Boxee. Even with themes.
Boxee: for it ease of use, which i cannot commend enough, slick UI, would be absolutely out of this world with a integrated games libray for pc and emulated games. I just think it would be a perfect fit for Boxee users. I'm crossing the fingers.
I’m excited
