Inappropriate?Hi Ayman!
Welp, it isn't meant to work that way...here's the deal:
We have to accommodate when people say their location is a city or other general area (anything that is not exact location, depending on the map zoom level). What you see where it says "One friend in the area..." (we call this the location plaque instead of a pin) is that Seth has stated that he is in the area, but he hasn't given his exact address. So, basically, Seth is around there somewhere, but we can't and shouldn't display a pin on the map since it is not a pinpoint of his location.
I suggest zooming out all the way and see if you can see Seth's location turn into a pin. From a distance, he will appear to be in the general area of SF (assuming that's where he is) but be represented as a pin on the map. Maybe what you are suggesting is that it should zoom out to see him as a pin, but that might be weird, huh?
Let me know if you are thinking of something else...

I zoomed in and out and I panned all around...I couldn't find him. So the utility of telling me he's nearby is kinda strange as i couldnt highlight him. A few things could fix this (like the zoom pan if i click on his name to show him and me on the map) and/or flash his pin or highlight it so i can see it on a noisy map.
Without some way to find where he is, the plaque is kinda useless...cuz i know hes nearby as i know you are generally nearby. :) -
Inappropriate? The thing is, the plaque appears only when you're zoomed in so close that there is *no* pin for that person — because their location is too general to be displaced precisely on the map.
What we're trying to represent is ‘As well as all these people who are pins on the map, this person is in the general area too, but we don't know where’.
As Sam says, to show you his pin, we'd have to zoom right out to a map of the world, pretty much. I think that would be even more confusion.
What if the plaque actually included the word ‘Also’, as in ‘Also, Seth Fitzsimmons, Tom Coates and Mor Naaman are in this general area’.
I’m asking questions
