Inappropriate?Lisatra -- I like the way you think! We'd love "footprint" to become inclusive of all ways in which one affects the environment, water use included. (An intuitive, all-inclusive, compact view of how I'm doing with respect to planet-friendly living? That's something I'd just love to have myself.)
At the same time, we've worked really, really hard to bring the right values to our carbon-footprint calculator -- use best available science, be completely transparent, meet rigorous standards -- and if we're to move beyond carbon-footprint calculation we'll want to do the same. It'll take some time to get all our ducks in a row and offer a truly comprehensive footprint calculator -- I'm not sure when we'll get there, but we've got our sights set on it. -
Inappropriate?I've never liked the term "Footprint" as applied to consequences of consumption or waste disposal. I especially find it incongruous to attach "Footprint" to water usage or its being wasted. I'd love to have someone, anyone, make a footprint in any body of water and show it to me. Yes, I'd love to have an all-inclusive term defining consumption and waste but footprint doesn't cut it for me. Thank you.
