I'm in public mode, the location I'm checking in at has a its privacy set to "According to my current privacy mode" yet my check ins aren't updating twitter even though on the Sharing tab I've got the checkbox checked for "When I check in at a place, post my checkin to Twitter."
Is it something in my Private mode filters, even though I'm in public mode? I wouldn't think so because there's a note that says "NOTE: These privacy filters only apply to things you do in private mode." but I'm at a loss for why this isn't working.
For what it's worth my Private mode filters are as follows:
Trusted Friends Friends Everyone else
Checkins Exact City Hidden

Not receiving a SMS confirmation code to my phone - phone plan through virgin mobile (not pay as you go), australia. +614XX XXX XXX number. Still receiving sms from other people though. Help! :-(
I have a moral question for all of you. Is there a line between social networking and advertising? I stumbled across this user's stream: http://brightkite.com/people/findmesexy and noticed that its more of an advertising stream than it is not.
It seems the goal has something to do with indexing and hits.
Does Brightkite frown on this or have any policies against it? I know of others who are using BK for advertising but they are much more subtle as they are actually posting real events related to themselves and periodically drop in an item or service they sell.
Its not immediately obvious to me what the difference is between these two options.
If I expand the distance to the max 4km of People Near Me, I see nothing.
Yet if I use the what's happening link, I see some activity.
Oddly this activity does not include that of my friends? Is that correct?
Sorry guess there are two questions above.
What might be neat is on each page if the help link were more context sensitive and gave you information about what that particular page was for.
Even a link to a nice little demo video would be cool.
I guess this might all come in good time :)
Keep up the good work and I dont want to distract you from thinking about
a Blackberry BK app :)
I am with Verizon Wireless and currently use the email feature to send and update bkite account. I had put in my sms-text email address which is 1234567890@vtext.com but the confirmation link that is sent to the mobile device is cut short due to Verizon's 160 character limit. This may be a helpful suggestion if the confirmation email comes in with the confirmation url before the "please confirm your email address" intro on the notification rather than intro+url (with half the url cut off). I hope this make sense.
Unless there's another way to register and confirm sms text email address.
Hi. I have a question about a 'trusted friend'. I am rather bored by his checkins and posts which are in my neighborhood. I unchecked sending his updates to my mobile, email and stream, but they are still being sent SMS to my mobile. Is it only because I have neighborhood alerts? I would like his un-send updates settings to override the neighborhood setting.
It seems like you might be mirroring Dodgeball's syntax, but given your integration with Twitter, following their conventions would be much better... especially for direct messaging ("d" instead of "msg" -- where every character counts).
I've spent a lot of time document existing syntaxes; please don't reinvent yet another one!
If I send in a query for businesses (by name) near GPS coordinates I get an error. Perhaps this could just balloon into a features like "Check me into the SuperAmerica nearest to these coordinates" but for now I'd settle for a search. I know I can do a search like "SuperAmerica in Eagan, MN" but that doesn't always get me the nearest.
i have a problem with my mobile number beginning with +56 98XXXXXXX .
the message is not delivered and i have a friend with number +56 99XXXXXXX. and everything is fine :S . i dont know what to do.
sorry my english.
What happened to the search boxes at the top of the page? They were much nicer there IMO. The new ones don't even let you hit the enter key to search--you have to click the button.
I'm a bit confused by this. I've created a few placemarks now. Now how do I say by SMS that I'm at a placemark called "work" for example? Do I simply text Brightkite the message "@work"? Will the photos that I have uploaded of that place then be shown in my and my friends feeds? I'm in the UK. Thank you.
After reading several posts the Brightkite-dev team is woking on several projects. I would love to know how things are going.
1.The desktop application for Windows and Mac computers > According to previous statements by Brady this was supposed to be ready last month. So how is it going?
2.The Facebook app. Brightkite promised Facebook integration > How far are you guys with developing this?
3.Brightkite is considering making a Dashboard (Mac OSX) widget (ref: we're considering making our own widget, if we have the time. We're a small company, so sometimes that can be a challenge.). Is this still in the pipeline?
4.And yes the iPhone app. Everyone knows its coming, but still the company knows how far the project is and must be able to give a somewhat detailed ETA on it.
4.1 Is the iPhone Brightkite app going to use the push notification service provided by Apple, to be released in september?
A bit more personal...
4.2 Is there any word on Periodic Automatic Checkins either by Brightkite or other third-party dev team with the Brightkite API?
Thank you all for doing a great job guys, keep the good work going!
For some reason when I try to view the comments on photos or posts I make to brightkite it automatically takes me up to the top of the page without letting me view the comments. I've noticed that this only happens when there is an "#" sign at the end of a url. It's a bit unnerving and I'd love to figure out a way around it. Anyone else have this problem?
