Update of FireEagle is slow Last reply on July 02, 2008 18:07.
Update of FireEagle is slow, way to slow. I checked in over 3 hours ago (in public mode), and Fire Eagle still isn't updated. Fire Eagle still tinks i am at my last location (which was in private mode). -

Where is the LEAVE function on the main website? Last reply on July 02, 2008 09:37.
The FAQ on the site mentions a LEAVE command you can send in an SMS and/or email that is effectively an undo for a check in. Sounds nice to use when starting travel for instance; I can then check in at the new location I arrive at when I get there and I want Brightkite users to know where I am again.
How do I access that LEAVE functionality from the main website? I don't seem to be able to find it... -

Fire eagle updates are they bi-directional? Last reply on July 02, 2008 07:41.
Fire eagle updates are they bi-directional?
It appears that Brightkite updares Fireagle, but not visa versa.
Is this the intended mode of operation?
As Fire Eagle is designed to serve locations, I expected Fire Eagle to feed Brightkite. -

annoying check-ins from strangers Last reply on July 02, 2008 05:17.
hi guys -
i'm excited about brightkite and look forward to using it to find my friends in the real world. however, my experience so far has consisted only of about 10 annoying check-in messages from some stranger named Mona. I see in your FAQ:
("Why am I receiving messages from people I don't know? Check your "Nearby Notifications" settings in your Account Settings.")
...that I can change this setting but I urge you to change the default to "friends only". Otherwise everyone who dips their toe in like me will get annoyed before they get value, and most will unsubscribe.
Also it would be nice if the incoming SMS messages said they were from brightkite, rather than from "80289" which just looks like SMS spam. I don't think that's who you want to be.
Thanks.

Why does Brightkite (via mobile phone) only work for the US? Last reply on July 01, 2008 23:12.
Why not support the UK mobile operators? We're practically the 51st state! -

Unwanted Repeated Checkins Last reply on July 01, 2008 22:39.
When I do mobile checkins, they often get repeatedly submitted. So my "What's Happening" will say that I checkedin 4 or 5 times. Please fix this. -

posting photo via email resulting in duplicates Last reply on May 16, 2008 15:45.
I just posted a photo using email once and it's showing up three times on the site.
Here's the place I posted the photo to:

RSS feed for places contains items for other places. Last reply on July 01, 2008 15:31.
The RSS feeds for places contain items that are not from that place.
For example the page for Forest Room 5 http://brightkite.com/places/81da8d6f...
and the RSS feed for that place is http://brightkite.com/places/81da8d6f...
Notice that the RSS feed is full of checkin's and posts from places that are not Forest Room 5. -

GPS location check ins Last reply on July 01, 2008 08:11.
We need the capability to check in using GPS capability if it's on our phones. For example, searching for a ubiquitous location like a gas station or starbucks, etc., and I checked in somewhere a few miles away then it's impossible to use the "? starbucks" to check in since there are so many locations. Google Maps uses location based cell tower triangulation on my Nokia E61i which works excellent. If I could use that as my location from which to base my search to start that would make life tons easier. Right now I end up not checking in at all since it's impossible. Another simple suggestion would be to use the zip code or intersection or address in the business search. For example today I was at a Shell station at 902 Richmond. Typing "? Shell" and going through 6 pages of results never brought up the listing so I gave up. If I could have typed "?Shell 902 richmond" that would have made life easy! -

Not getting mobile confirmation code. Last reply on June 30, 2008 22:36.
Trying to register my mobile isn't working (not getting confirmation), and I've used this phone with BK before. I don't think it's a reception problem since I've received other text messages this morning at the same location.

Send an invite and it says "mailto:" Last reply on June 30, 2008 21:32.
I've found a bug: Invite someone and it'll say "We've sent an invitation to mailto:[censored email address]."
It shouldn't say "mailto:". -

Desktop app? Last reply on June 30, 2008 21:31.
I'm tired of the constant downtime and am ready to leave Twitter. I don't want to have to visit the brightkite website to input updates (or constantly do them on my phone). Do you have a desktop app?
(Patiently waiting on my beta invite) ;)

Leaving different types of notes (reviews, recommendations, etc.) Last reply on June 30, 2008 16:30.
It would be really great if there were more options for the types of notes you're leaving at a place. For example, I was at a restaurant yesterday and wanted to leave a mini review when I was back at my computer. If I could have somehow categorized that as something more than just a status update, it would allow folks to filter. I realize this may be straying a bit from the 140-character microblogging goal, but bkite has a great interface that shouldn't always be constrained by SMS limitations.
