Recently active problems in Brightkite

Confused by the iPhone Privacy icon...



I don't get it -- when it's orange am in Private mode? Or do I click the green icon to *go* public?

As a workaround to Verizon not supporting Brightkite via SMS, I was using text-to-email sent to the unique email assigned me by Brightkite. Verizon's system malfunctioned and bombed Brightkite with dozens of repeat emails from a single text. My text-to-email ability was blocked by Brightkite. Now Verizon text-to-email seems to be working again. Please unblock me.

I tried to check-in via mobile yesterday afternoon. I did not receive a text reply until an hour later. Oddly, I received 6 text replies at once. After disregarding, I received another 14 text replies. A few times, it checked me into random locations. I have since received 8 more text replies. Please advise.

Twitter to Facebook posts are cut off.

For some reason, the map for Sebago Lake (http://brightkite.com/places/e66f9c8a...) is really zoomed out. Any way this can be fixed?

I added the comment to the relevant post and hit submit, but then got thrown into an infinite loop. I had to close the browser tab to get it to stop, but not before it had repeated the comment 11 times. I'm not sure if this was a one-off issue or how to get it to reproduce itself because other comments seem to have worked just fine.

Firefox 3.0.1 on XP Pro SP3 if that helps.

I wish Brightkite accepted text messages from Verizon.

When i check in from my phone (Verizon, text to email address) it check me in at that place 3 times. what's going on?

How can we go about changing an incorrect name Business name that shows up with an associated address?

It would appear that the pay-as-you-go service called Cricket Phone is not fully-supported. I can send pictures and text via email to my personalized user@bkite.com address, no problem, but I cannot do the "registration" of my phone with your web site so I can't TXT the 80289 number with a msg.

Although I know you cannot list every single fly-by-night service that comes out, perhaps you could list which pay-as-you go phones work and which do not, just as you note that Verizonwireless (contract accounts) don't work with bkite. A page of "phone services supported" linked from the Mobile tab / page would be nice.

Accidental posts from an old location can't be updated with your current (real) location.

I enabled the "turn SMS off during x hours" but still received a checkin notification (from a stranger, not a friend). I double-checked to make sure that the time zone was set properly and that the thing was enabled, and both were true.

After I delete a check in from my profile, I am taken to my friends view. Seems like a poor user experience because I want to delete other things. I want to stay on my personal stream.

Excited about Brightkite, but finding it seriously hobbled because no Verizon support. Ouch.

For the last two or three days, checking in at a place then immediately submitting a photo shows a long delay between the two events. I have done both with in seconds of each other and the check-in shows up quickly. The photo e-mailed immediately afterward shows in my timeline up to an hour after the check-in. Sometimes the photo of the place I originally checked in to shows up after I check in to a new location causing a non-linear timeline. Included photo had an actual delay between check-in and emailed photo of about 30 minutes. Displayed delay is 2:30. So, 2 hours after emailed photo is appeared in timeline. This is just this afternoons example.

Business names don't show up when I type them in. I am assuming this is because in in Australia. Will this eventually be fixed?

I tried sending two email posts yesterday and both failed with the following message:

This message came in today. Posting was done yesterday. Not sure what is happening at your end. Both messages were being relayed by my Gmail account.

As a test I sent another mail from my Gmail web client and that didn't show up either. It has only been about 5 minutes but usually they show up much quicker than that.

EDIT | When I tested out emailing from GMail I got a response back from BK that I need to add a SAY in the body. Is this new? Before I would be able to send a picture from iPhone just by emailing the picture, adding a subject and sending it. It would automatically post from that. Am I going to have to add SAY to each photo I want to post now?

Some of the places that I have checked in at are listed with correct address but are incorrectly located in the "map" view. These places are...

* Sweeties Fine Chocolate @ 68 Main St, Northampton, MA 01053, USA
* Starbucks @ 211 Main St, Northampton, MA 01053, USA

The first two are mapped into the town next to Northampton (Florence). Starbucks is mapped in across the river in Amherst.
