Does (or will, and if so, when) Brightkite support checkin or notification via IM? Twitter supports this and it's great to use in both directions. Also saves on SMS count for those of us with limited SMS.

So maybe an alternative would be to send a direct message to a dedicated Twitter account (“d brightkite @home”). That way we could just use Twitter’s Jabber bot, which seems pretty stable.

There are some services out there that are updated by Google Talk statuses.
Some people like to set their their location on their IM status, like "I'm @home ".

So why not allowing checking when setting GTalk status message using the configured placemarks on Brightkite?
